Maybe I'm looking a little preemptively, but I looked ahead in the Sens schedule on their website, and in January we seem to stay home pretty much all month.
10/13 games played in January will be at SBP.
I think this'll be exactly the month where the team really turns around. Single road games are followed by lengthy home stints and I think that'll help us in the standings as well as in the team's confidence (the bad start harming our current at-home record aside)
Maybe we can sneak Gerber in there too a few times and get some wins for him so he can gain confidence at home and with the home fans.
The Sens definitely need to get way higher above .500 than now and if it doesn't happen in January it'll probably take a miracle to land us a spot in the playoffs.
Wayne Scanlan had an interesting couple of articles in the Citizen over the weekend, more or less implying that the Sens are not putting enough emphasis on goalie coaching.
Emery took a month last summer to get some technical help with a coach in Alberta. He quotes Emery as saying that sooner or later all teams will have full time goalie coaches.
He also suggested that Gerber was not given the help that he needed when he needed it earlier this year as goalie coach Low is often not in Ottawa, and though he did come back "one week early" he did not come back early enough.
I thought the information on Emery's summer project was interesting because he seems to have improved a lot this year. It also shows how dedicated Emery is to improving his game.
i dunno about gerber man .. iv seen him do some terrible stuff when we lost like 5 games in a row all leadin 1-0 / 2-0 / 3-0 / 4-2 .... thats so un senz like .. all the game tieing goals and game winning goals were distanced 1 timed shots that a normal goalie would glove it to make a routine save ...
Its more then just January.
We play 22 of there next 30 games at home.
This is the season right here.
I think the Sens will rise to the occasion and go from an average team to a very good team.
I think the last 2 seasons our schedule was heavy on the home games in the early stages and mostly road trips near the end. It's the opposite this year so maybe that could explain our terrible start. Hopefully because of this scheduling our team ends up being in its peak form heading into the playoffs.
