Absolutely terrible is my thought.

Lehner is our goalie of the future and Lazar is probably one of our top forward prospects.

I don't mean to slag Byfuglien, but the Senators need defensemen that contribute defensively. That price is also horrible.

What would you consider a fair price. Would you make the same trade for Bogo?

Lehner isn't going anywhere any time soon.

Byfuglien is a rover, and tries to be a one man show too often. Out of position frequently, and doesn't have the wheels or stamina to recover.

Hell of a clapper, and great in board battles, but he throws his teammates out of sync far too often because he doesn't have a particularly good hockey IQ, yet he does what he wants out there.

I wouldn't want him on my team as a defenseman. As a depth forward come playoff time, perhaps, but not at the salary he'd command. And I wouldn't even dream of coughing up prime assets for him.

The number of players in the league whom I would give up Lehner and Lazar for is very, very short. I don't think any of them are on the Jets.

Maybe make an offer on our "not-goalie-of-the-future" if you're looking for help in net.

Won't work with our season budget and he's the wrong type of defenseman we need on top of creating a huge hole in nets.

I like Lehner a lot, but no reason for us to make this trade atm.

I don't think you'll find many (if any) Sens fans that like this deal.

I'd probably trade Buff straight up for Lehner because he's pretty much ready now, has big potential and still has some cost control. That said, Reimer will likely be on the block this summer. He looks like he will be just as good and he's RFA as well. You can find pretty good goaltending for pretty cheap these days.

Sounds like Sens fans would rather trade Anderson for a 2nd + prospect type package when the time comes instead? Which is fair.

I don't think the value is really that far off but the Sens would NEVER do it.

Counter:
Anderson, Michalek and one of Stone/Puempel/Prince/2014 2nd (would depend on needs and such) + maybe a bottom pairing Dman if need be
for
Bufuglien and a goalie (Montoya?)

Why Ottawa does this:
They get a Dman which they desperately need. Buff has his issues but he's a significant improvement over Gryba regardless. Lehner can easily step in and be the starter, and the offense they lose by getting rid of Michalek is basically replaced by Bufyglien anyways. They lose a forward prospect.. something they have lots of anyways. They becomes harder to play against. Also, Michalek is an upcoming UFA and I doubt Ottawa is going to re-sign him.

Why Winnipeg does this:
They lose a Dman.. something they have tons of. They get a top 6 winger in Michalek who can replace Buff's production, and a #1 goalie and now a great backup. They also get a good forward prospect on top of it.

Not wanting to trade away a still improving, NHL ready tender is understandable.

That said, I was a Canucks fan before the Jets came back so I remember the "value" or whatever of Schneider as he got better and better. Gillis got bent over not having any leverage for sure, but... A better goalie that was even more proven than Lehner got back a player 4-5 years away from making the type of impact Kane is right now. I'd temper my expectations a bit if I was you.

Sir you win the most thought put into the worst proposal of the month award.

In your own post, (Not sure if you read it before posting) you contradict your own thought pattern.

The value is close, I do think it's a small overpayment for buff, but either way, there is zero chance either is getting moved. Andy injured, Lehner is the future, and Lazar is our top prospect IMO and without a first this year I definitely don't wanna give away the high end of our prospect pool. So Sens pass.

I'm not sure I trade either Lehner or Lazar for Buff, especially given his weaknesses and contract, certainly not Lehner. And I'll say the same thing here I said in the thread asking for Anderson (to the Oilers I beleive) : This year, we hang on to both. Lehner is not yet ready to start 60+ games, and if we trade either, we are an injury or slump to the remaining goalie away from handing Anaheim a lottery pick.

Pass.
