Who am I thinking of that got 5.5 then?

One thing to consider too is that Roy got that the year the cap went down. Legwand will only get 4 million if he gives a discount to us or whatever other team has him on the roster at the end of the year.

Legwand's career averages are pretty typical of a 2nd line center, somewhere in the 45-50 point range. Those players are pretty commonly in the 4--->4.5--->5 million range. If he was coming to us as a UFA, we'd have fewer complaints paying him in that range for his typical numbers. I have no problem seeing him come back in the 4-4.5 range, though preferrably not for a 4-5 year term. Something around 4-4.5 for 2-3 would be fine, then a lesser, retirement-type, contract if he wants to stick around.

We may see franchise history made tonight.

If the Predators fail to score in the first 15:01 of the game, the shutout streak will jump to the 10th longest in franchise history.

Going scoreless through two periods will put the Preds in elite company, as it will be only the fifth time Nashville has gone 160 or more minutes without a goal.

The top four times include:
  • A 161:02 shutout streak from November 20 through 26th, in the year 2000. After scoring a goal just before the 10 minute mark of the 2nd against Detroit, the Preds were shut down the rest of the game - and then shutout by Dallas, Saint Louis, and (for the first 10:58) against Carolina.
  • A 164:45 shutout streak, courtesy of Mike Smith and the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2012 Western Conference Semis; the irony, of course, is that the first game was a shutout win by Pekka Rinne.
  • A 166:44 streak from December 4-10, 2000 (a few short days after that first one we mentioned). The Preds scored with 1:35 left in the 2nd against Vancouver, and were shut down the rest of the game, and against Edmonton and Calgary, and didn't score again until 5:15 was gone in the 2nd against Minnesota.
  • A 174:27 streak that actually spanned two seasons; the first half was the last two and a half games of the 2003 season, for a stretch of 149:09; it wasn't until the 5:30 mark of the 2nd period when Andreas Johansson broke the scoring drought.
The actual longest amount of time between goals, however, will (hopefully) never be duplicated:the Predators went 80:38 to end the 2004 playoffs against Detroit - and didn't score another goal until 8:40 in the first period of their game on October 5, 2005, 538 days later. If you have to ask what happened in-between those two goals, you obviously didn't live through it.

Anyone think that Housley's offensive-minded defense has contributed to the problems on defense this season? Are guys caught out of position too often because they are focused on scoring? Are there more odd man rushes this season, or just more odd man rushes resulting in goals?

Housley brings a new defensive approach. Our defense is struggling. Am I oversimplifying the situation.

I don't think it has to do with that too much. It is hard to win in this league with young players. Ellis/Ekholm/Jones are going to make the mistakes that a Weber/Klein/Josi has made. The D-corps should get better and better as the year goes on. Fewer missed assignments should lead to fewer goals if our goalie can stop a beach ball night to night

We have 9000000 "2-way" players, shouldn't they help cover for the defenseman when he carries in?

Definitely. I noticed it twice in the Avs game.
Two of their goals came when Jones carried it, and later on when Weber did.
