They need a major shakeup to get out of their slump.... How?

I don't think they are in a slump. I think they are out of shape, poorly constructed roster-wise, and struggling with their identity as a team that ownership wants to content every year, but is in need of a "retool" because they have an aging roster and a concerning lack of talent in the pipeline.

I'd target Kulikov from Florida and would be willing to move Simmonds for him.
Second, I'd look at moving Coburn to Edmonton for Petry (I like that he's RH) and a pick or prospect.
Move Timonen at the deadline for the best package of futures available.
Try to move Hartnell for a younger winger and/or picks and prospects. Perhaps even add Couturier and look to get Eberle + in return.

Have their shooting percentages converge on the league average?

Of course, shooting more wouldn't hurt.

After seeing several of his recent proposals, it seems clear to me that 1) the OP isn't a Flyers fan, and 2) he hasn't watched the team play.

As an EDM fan, I do not add to Petry to get Coburn. Not sure I make that trade straight up. Petry has been our best D this year.

I think they should make a pitch for a young sniper like Yakupov and/or a young 2 way defender like Tyler Myers or Ristolainen.

'The cost of the D would likely be prohibitive , particularly considering that the Flyers have some decent defensive prospects and may well be looking at Ekblad this year.

Yakupov? You must not be familiar with the Flyers history with Russian forwards.

EDM laughs.

Flyers don't do it anyway because Snider is caught in a Cold War mentality when it comes to young Russian forwards.

I don't think I trade Yakupov for that package alone… Yakupov is not being traded. He hasn't even played 82 games in the NHL yet and both the GM and Coach of the Oilers publicly said they are not going to trade him.

There is no point in Edmonton moving J Schultz either. They need to add to their blue line's puck moving ability, not take it away.

How's Gagner defensively? I'd probably do this, even though I don't think it'd work capwise. It's a good thing I'm not a GM.

I don't think Gagner makes a ton of sense for the Flyers. Even without Couturier, they'd have Giroux, Lecavalier, and Schenn, with Laughton waiting in the wings.

Maybe swap him for one of EDM's D prospects?

Dustin "Big Buff" Byfuglien (3 X 5.2)

Braydon "potential angry mode with Bogosian/Trouba" Coburn (3 X 4.5)
Brayden "my brother sucks" Schenn (1 x 870k)

I disagree. I do that trade if I am Philly then slap him on the wing.

Hartnell Giroux Eberle
Gagner Vinny Voracek
Read Schenn Downie

Gagner is best suited as a RW. Not sure if that fits for Philly though.

I don't think "retool" is the word here. This team stinks. You have plenty of teams, namely Chicago, Boston and Pittsburgh filling out their bottom roles (3rd and 4th lines, 3rd pairing) with young kids who play with tenacity and speed. The Flyers fill those roles with checkers.

This team is a mess and they need a new architect to start building something new. It's sad, and hindsight is always 20/20, but the Flyers were set up pretty nicely to contend for a couple years, but you trade away 2 of your best players for guys who haven't exactly lived up to expectations, lose Pronger, and make the mistake known as Bryzgalov and it's no wonder this team only has 9 points right now.

Miss the playoffs again this year and I'm real curious to see what Snider's latest "knee-jerk" reaction will warrant.

Surprised nobody's made the Claude Giroux to LA joke yet!

I think Philly needs to trade/demote/waive the deadweight and start letting the young players who have looked good or impressive in the past get some NHL experience: guys like Ty McGinn, Jason Akeson, Oliver Lauridsen and Brandon Manning. I mean, what possible reason could one have for playing Kris Newbury, Hal Gill, Jay Rosehill in the NHL when you've got reasonable replacements for all in system and younger and cheaper?!

The one thing the Flyers don't need is a goalie.

Sometimes I feel like the team just hates me and wants to stop me being a fan.
