Desharnais for Versteeg seems like a good basis for a deal but Versteeg is the better player (or higher upside anyways) with one less year on his contract so I think Montreal has to either add a pick of retain some salary to make it work.

Desharnais + 2nd For Versteeg

OR

Desharnais + 500K retained per year For Versteeg

Dumbest player in the NHL, wouldn't even trade a 2nd for him.
Sounds about right.

Fleischmann for Rundblad + Samuelsson

Versteeg for Desharnais + Habs 2nd

Goc for Nucks 2nd + Booth (who helps them reach the cap floor, be a stop gap player and they can deal next deadline)

JovoCop + Gomez for Liles + 4th (Leafs will buyout JovoCop at seasons end)

Kulikov + Matthias for Oilers 1st + Klefbom

Oh I don't know. Things aren't working out for him in Florida but I've also seen him be an asset in other situations. Time for change for sure.

There's middle ground there somewhere!!!
There's no way in hell the Leafs are giving up a 2nd for Goc, I don't care if Florida is taking back a contract or not.

Versteeg's whole career has been one big change. How many teams has he played on already? like 4 or 5? Jeez

Yeah I agree with some posters in that Montreal seems like a good fit. Desharnais and a 2nd for Versteeg is pretty even value.

holy ****. RT you're usually one of the few guys on this board that know player value and can gauge it accurately, but you do not want to give up that much for Flash. He had a couple nice seasons in Florida but i attribute that to being the first or second offensive option. He'd look nice on a line with Ribeiro and Boedker though, but that's an f load to give up.

the hate on gudbranson is ridicilous.

he plays with ahl players EVERY year EVERY ES shift, of course he'll looke like trash. giving up on him is way too early, and its the usual gudbranson haters that posts here.

there was no clear cut #3 after taylor/tyler, gudbranson was worth the gamble. the devils series proved he can be a big game changer

Yeah, that's an overpayment for Flash, and I do like Flash.

Also an overpayment. No way.

Rundblad + 2nd is the highest I'd go for Flash, and with Morris, Schlemko, and Klesla all missing time due to injury so far, I'm hesitant to trade any of our defenders.

How about Lessio and a 2nd for Flash?

The reason why he cant trade his players is because they are old and overpaid. He cant get rid of them for anything of value. The only one they have of any value is Brian Campbell and the Cats would have to take 3.5 mil of his salary to make him worth anything either.

So what. he's put in 20 or more goals in 4 of his 7 seasons, one of those 7 was last years shorty. Not to mention 37 pts in 57 playoff games.
40-50 point wingers who produce in the playoffs are worthless nowadays?

I dont think any of what you're saying is necessarily true. The only "old" guys on the team are Campbell, Weaver Clemmensen & Thomas, not including an injured Jovo who cant really be traded (aka guys over 35). I wont disagree that many are overpaid though. He could get rid of them for something of value, if he's willing to package them with good assets (like picks or prospects). I'm sure guys like Goc, Weaver, & Fleischmann would be easy to move and get decent enough value. Probably Boyes, Gomez & Gilbert would also be easy enough to move as well with their salaries so low and would probably help a contender with depth.

As far as Campbell goes, there are probably a few teams that have plenty of cap space to afford him that they dont need to retain that salary to make him worth anything. If they did have to retain salary, the most they really need to retain is $2M as that would put him at $5.1M in cap hit which is fair for what guys like him get as free agents. But Colorado would seem like an ideal landing spot for him without FL retaining salary, if the Avs are really interested. There were several threads on here in the last 2 weeks about the Avs & Campbell so it would be possible to get decent enough value for him.

How long until Holmgren trades the rest of his crop for the most overpaid player on their team?

Best move for the Panthers might very well be for the owner to get a different GM.

do you think that FLA would retain salary on Versteegs contract? I could see vancouver giving a decent package so long as salary could be made to work.
