And McLeod got 5 games.

McLeod's first game missed was 10/19 @ BUF, eligible to return 11/2 vs. MTL.
Grabner's first game missed will be 10/22 vs. VAN, eligible to return 10/26 vs. PHI.

Average number of suspensions / fines in a season? How about last year's (48 game) season? It feels like there are more than usual, but I'd like to compare with real numbers. Anyone have a good reference for this information?

Idk about averages, but so far in total this season there have been 67 games lost due to suspension (16 preseason and 51 regular season).

I've kept this thread for the last 3 years (including this one).

In 2011-2012 there were 9 suspensions handed out in the pre-season for 31 regular season games, there were 34 suspensions totaling 103 games handed out in the regular season and 12 suspensions totaling 44 games in the playoffs (although 25 of those were the Torres suspension).

In 2013 there were 17 suspensions totaling 43 games in the regular season and 4 suspensions totaling 11 games in the playoffs.

If we look at just the first ~month of the season the numbers look like this:

2011-2012: 5 suspensions, 15 games
2013: 6 suspensions, 11 games
2013-2014: 7 suspensions, 33 games

So the number of suspensions isn't that much higher, but the severity is.

And the first month for this season isn't even finished yet, with Scott's potential suspension-could be looking at 38-40 total games for the month of Oct 2013-14-that's astounding....

What's the dubious "record" in NHL for total amount of games lost to suspension in a month?

You'd have to look it up on the wikipedia articles, but I'd be surprised if we aren't already above it.

Would the NHL discipline a player that was involved in a leaked sex tape? We all know what happened when Avery made obscene comments about Elisha Cuthbert.

I can't say for sure, but I think there's a significant difference between something like that and talking about another players girlfriend.

Added Scott ahead of when I normally, albeit only by a few hours. Mainly because I don't know if I'll get on this weekend to do it.

Was a radio quote so no source.
But the past couple seasons went something like... 1 suspension handed out per every 40 something games two seasons ago, 1 suspension per every 60 something games last season, and then up to this point (believe it was immediately after the John Scott incident) 1 suspension per every 19 games.

Scott suspended 7 games. The three games he's already missed count towards it, thus he'll be eligible to return 11/8 @ ANA.

2 years ago there were 34 suspensions for a total of 104 games handed out over 1230 games. That's one suspension every 36.18 games and a suspension 'rate' of 8.455%

Last year there was 17 suspensions for a total of 43 games handed out over 720 games. That's one suspension every 42.35 games and a suspension 'rate' of 5.972%

So far this season there's been 9 suspensions for a total of 42 games handed out over 190 games. That's one suspension every 21.11 games and a suspension 'rate' of 22.105%

That is regular season only numbers so does not include Clarkson, Bissonette or Kassian who would add another 3 suspensions and 18 games. Also in 2011-2012 there were a total of 8 pre-season suspensions that lost regular season games for a total of 31 games.

Added Ashton. That brings us to a total of 44 games handed out in October. That's more than in the entirety of the 48 game 2013 season. Yeesh

Kadri suspension incoming.

Skating fourth line, green jersey at practice.

(No punishment for match penalty on Granlund; suspension for Backstrom hit.)
