We don't want Yak!!! Stop posting offers for him with Montreal.

There's a reason why 15 minutes after Yakupov was drafted he popped here in trade proposals and hasn't stopped ever since.

Keep saying he's a star, keep saying he's adapting well to the nhl, that he is not a problem player to coach, that he is not a KHL risk and after all that... keep plastering HFboards with Yak proposals, one more ludicrous then the other that no one will agree with!

Yakupov is a good talent. I've love him in montreal but not sure this is the deal montreal is looking for.

Perhaps Gorges+ would be more to montreal's liking but then Edmonton fans wouldn't feel they got enough for yakupov which is 100% fair.

He lived out of the States from the age of 4 till he was 15.
So he has lived 8 yrs in N.A and the 11 yrs in Germany, Italy, and Russia.
Yak is a flight risk plain and simple and brings along to many headaches especially at the cost of Lars Eller, Nathan Beaulieu, Zack Fucale.

In addition, I believe his off-season home is florida.

And to add to that, Galchenyuk flat out hates being considered a Russian. Why would he flee to a country that he has no interest in? He's as American as apple pie.

Yak meanwhile is KGB material and one must wonder if he would bail when the going gets tough. Lower taxes, higher earnings to play in his homeland. Why wouldn't Yak bail on Edm for the KHL. Its certainly a possibility.

Yak is exactly what we need, a consistent scoring threat. I'd make that deal. BTW I'm sick and tired of the xenophobia towards Russians.

Look i'm not saying i wouldn't make a deal for him but it has to be at the right price and the offer in here is way to much for a flight risk.

1. I don't think many people intensely dislike or hate Russians in the NHL.
2. It's not irrational to recognize that there is a very possibility that he goes home.

It's not xenophobia. FWIW, I absolutely love Russians - I'm fascinated by their history, and even have a Soviet pin I wear on my bag sometimes.

MON fans have to admit that Ellers started off hot but has not registered a point in 5 games. I am not saying he is a bad player I am just saying that he has been in a slump as well.

Yes he has. And not for lack of effort. He's doing everything now that he did then, which to me is encouraging for his development.

I like Yakupov, but the "russian factor" does play a role, as does his slow progression defensively. Too rich for my blood right now. #nailedit

Eller for Yakupov straight across would be closer from Montreal's POV, the OP is ridiculous.

I don't see much of a flight risk. He entered the league at 18 and will make loads of money sooner than later. He wants to play in the best league in the world.

Maybe not by you, but Russians are stigmatised in the NHL, especially in good old Canada. I love Russia too, and I believe the Russian players that come over here are the cream of the crop. It has been said, the risk of a Russian going back to Russia is less than 5%. It's a very managable risk. Especially with Yak, who established a good relationship with Galchenyuk Sr and Jr, and with Larionov. Yak on the Habs would provide us with a Maurice Richard type of player. The guy has character and is demonized by old school hockey farts just like Subban is, because he is different. Meanwhile, Edmonton is so spoiled with 1st overall picks... the story would be different on another team. Yakupov would be the most lethal scoring threat on the Habs since Lafleur...

If we can get him for a package, ante up and jump on it !

Considering he would be playing with his former junior teammate and good friend I would be shocked if he left to Russia

Yea, and if he develops into a star then expect to pay double that.

'if'

i don't even care to have him on the Habs. we're already small enough.

we're not good trading partners. we were patient with Eller and he's looking like a stud now. why ship him for another player that we'll have to be patient with again? because he has the 'potential' to be great? that'll hurt our team for 2 years, at least.

Maybe.

Face it your not getting P.K and no one is willing to overpay for Yak.
Besides we already got the best player in that draft yr.
