Dear god, I don't think I've seen the Hawks dominate the faceoff circle like that in years! The lowest percentage for our centermen was Pirri at 58%. Even our wingers were winning faceoffs.

Their coach is Roy.

I shudder to imagine how he'd react if anybody played bad for him.

Maybe Vrbata creeped him out. He looks like a deranged alien. I'd trade his ass too.

I'm not sure I've seen the Chicago Blackhawks special teams this bad this season, aside from the first game of the year.

Solid win. The PK has got to get better though. This is getting annoying now.

You clearly missed Mike Kitchen's "stellar box" PK system his first year here.

I'm strictly focused on this season with this particular roster.

Yea Washington had their way with us with their PP. (Weren't they 5/6 or something ridiculous like that.. even though their the best in the league. Oilers typically are a top 10 PP unit as well) Sorry, reading this board on my phone. Misread your posts.

Morrison historically had always been a good face off guy with wheels it's just that he was pretty much done at the time we got him. I thought he might have been better myself. I think he was just waiver fodder anyways and Campoli was decent for us. I do recall a good chunk of this board quite upset when Stan didnt retain him.

Meanwhile, Sean O'Donnell and Sami Lepisto were unrestricted free agent gems.

The Oduya trade was panned pretty heavily and a good number of people flipped when we re-signed him.

Edit: His best trade was the slow play of Nick Leddy - who I believe was considered a hometown reach - although pretty much everyone on the Hawks board loved the move.

That's the problem with the PK - we're not playing a "box" we're floating and actually chasing the puck.....

The Hawks need to play a tight box on the PK and problem solved...

Keep the opposition on the outside, let them shoot the puck. When that happens let Crawford see the shot or block it if you can - or don't make a shot even possible from the outside..

Presently the PK is just wondering and pretty much challenging shooters one-on-one.... That's not going to work and never will work because it will allow the PP to creep into Crawford and screen him...

Then again, I'm not shocked considering how offensive minded this team is and their general strategy is to go straight for the puck, however that is a habit they will have to break when they're attempting to kill penalties....

Because they continue to chase the puck on the PK which creates all sorts of opportunities for the team on the PP..... They just have to play the box and not wonder around, block shooting lanes and forget about SHG's or potential breakaways....

IMO, this may sound silly but I think this team has become too offensive minded that they've forgot how to kill penalties and play a tight defensive game where they will be tested for 2 minutes in their own zone down a man...

We played an EXTREMELY tight box to start the year, and the Caps exposed us. Unless you want Hammer and Oduya too hurt to be effective come March, we need a different answer.

Same place the Wild came from a couple of years ago when they were in first for half the season and then the bottom dropped out. The Avs are a middle rung team that is riding an unsustainable wave of luck.

That was too tight of a box (way too small), it was almost in format continually of an actual "box" and their skating was horrible.

They made absolutely no attempt to other than to "stand in a box" and that was the extent of their box.

If it matters, they've done their best on 5 on 3's, hence the diamond kill seems to work better (imagine if they had another PK'er on the diamond)..

We signed John Scott to a two year contract as a free agent after Minnesota failed to re-sign him. Didn't trade for him, or give up a 5th.

My bad man - Thought you meant we traded for him, not traded him away to the Ranger's for a 5th. You were right. Carry on here. Haha

Definitely need the points because the meat grinder in the west is coming soon...Hawks, like most of the west, have fattened up vs the weak east and the few weak teams in the west...but soon the schedule steps up all around the WC and we shall see who the big boys are at that time. To date, hawks lost both vs St Louis (1 point) in their only encounters vs the west elite.

The time to change that is upon us!

You need to BLOCK SHOTS on the PK..never gonna happen with Keith on since he lost his teeth on such attempt a few years ago...he just doesn't anymore amd Seabrook is too slow and just mot in proper position and or not reading and anticipating well and not clearing guys out effectively...they are a mess on the pks...Hammer and Oduya do block shots but when they go chasing instead it can result in goals but usually because our lazy forwards are not supporting by covering the open shooters..in short pk success is about blocks about positioning and anticipation to get in the right spots to block or break up passes and about the will to get to loose pucks and clear. ..but right niw we are not doing any of those siccrssfully and the only offset has to be CC stopping opposing PPs better..As for our Pp...one successful PO among several FAILS with so few shots and scoring chances plus the Shame of giving up a shorty,is not sufficient enough a "success" ...ie. that our marketing hype dept. will make a big deal about another game where we got a PP goal but gloss over the uglly PP FAILS we had..so PP and PK overall STUNK and must be addressed by Q...

Craw is going to need some rest. Bowman needs to fix the backup problem or he'll be exhausted by playoff time.
