.. as the Stars are making a hard push for it, with their 9th (NINE!) shutout loss of the season. We are just at the half, maybe we can make it 15, and have at least one record..

Well, the team record is 11, so you're almost there. Keep truckin'.

The record is 20, by the Blackhawks in the 28-29 season. They only played 44 games.

They also hold the record for most consecutive games shut out with 8.

That is the problem with old records. You can't really use them for anything. Todays NHL is a completely different beast.

I think it would be best to divide NHL records into pre-expansion and post-expansion. At least when the expansions started NHL looked a bit like it does today.

Some are and some aren't. The two highest individual shutout totals were set in that season (Hainsworth had 22), but Tony Esposito is tied for third with 15, which he accomplished in the post-expansion era.

Anders, just a little salt in the wound for you: the Hawks also hold the record for most power play goals given up in one season with 122 in 88-89.

wow, I thought for sure it would belong to the Pirates back in that era. They scored 46 goals in 44 games in 1928-29.

And the Blackhawks finished below them in the standings

The Hawks only had 33 goals in 44 games that year. Their record was 7W 29L 8T 33GF 85GA 22PTS.

Didn't Hainsworth play for the Canadiens?
