Markov wants to stay in Montreal and wants one more contract

As per TSN690 and Tony, Markov wants to stay and wants one more contract.

What would you offer him if you want him to stay?

Was he quoted on that? Context please.

I'm not sure what to think of this. I'd like for him to retire a Hab but on the other hand would be nice to get something in return for him if we are out of the race.

I thought RDS told us all Markov is planning to bolt to the KHL at all costs, because he's a sneaky Russian who only cares about money.

Not that Tony is any more reliable a source by himself, but Markov does tend to communicate with the Anglo media more.

Would rather do a shorter contract, but the way he's been playing this year, I would like him back. 2 yrs 11 M would be fine with me.

A $6M-$5M-$4M $15M/3yrs offer would be beneficial to us in terms of getting a discount. I think you have to tip-toe a little around the idea of a discount in the negotiation. End of the day, if it was just flat $18M/3yrs, that'd be acceptable too. He's only 35 so I'd be at least a little open to the idea of going 4yrs if there was a further cap hit reduction involved.

Made no sense for Markov to bolt back to Russia. We're talking about a guy that's agreed to discounts before, he's never appeared greedy, always said how he loves it here and how it's his home, who embraced the life and is now a Canadian. Really no reason for him to now bolt.

Him dropping Meehan is nothing more than a coincidence, or it's because they weren't seeing eye to eye for future plan (hit open market vs extension).

So it's either a coincidence or it's not.

Give him the deal. Markov is such a special player. I hope he retires a hab. I love him.

I know he's appreciated, but I'm gonna say it anyway, his contributions are severely underrated, not only by our own fans, but the league in general. Such a key hockey player.

Well, I think the KHL is an option for him, in the sense that if the Habs try to lowball him too much, he will take offers elsewhere both in North America and Russia. That's perfectly reasonable, you can't expect a player who is still really good to take a Douglas Murray contract.

But there's no reason to think he's expecting Subban money unless you believe in stereotypes about Russian players. It makes no sense for Markov.

Hopefully he gets one more contract.

I hope he stays. Without him, Subban will be less effective.

Subban is pretty damn effective no matter how he is used. But there's as big a dropoff between Markov and the bottom 4 as there is between Subban and Markov.

I forgot the link, but earlier last season there was rumors that a KHL team was willing to give Markov $10 million per season for 5 years. Markov delayed returning to North America with Kovalchuk. I wouldn't be surprise if Markov takes that.

Try to replace a guy who plays 25min. as an average per game, excellent in powerplay and much more.
Where´s the knee injury now? 3years/15mil. perfect or 2 years 11mil. that would be my choice.
Markov is

The big question is:

Do we give him a NTC?

I heard that the Russian Space Federation offered him $500M per year to be their official Space General. He would oversee all things Ruskie that involved rockets.

I wouldn't be surprised if Markov took the offer.
