Lol. Solid no call, right? I love watching Couturier get under Malkin's skin.

So what are the chances that Coot's detractors chill considering how he keeps proving his meddle at 20..oh wait he should be scoring 30 goals....

I remember posting in this thread towards the beginning trying to defend couts because a lot of people were upset with him and using the 8th pick on him. So much can change in a few weeks.

Malkin is gonna turn around one day and he'll be 30 and Coots will be 23. lol

I think he's already noticed that Coots doesn't get pushed around so easily.

So you went to the Mike Milbury School of General Managing?

I'm getting to the point where I'm not sure I'd do that straight up. It's getting hard to imagine what this forward group would do without him, and I am very much against digging one big hole to fill another. Sure, we'd have Weber...but then we'd be looking for the Couturier replacement.

Though I definitely support where you're coming from, I have to disagree. The value of Weber to the Flyers would outweigh the value of Couturier, IMHO. Plus, ostensibly, having Weber would open up moving a defenseman and hopefully further bolster the line-up.

I just think it's a sideways step overall; we have pretty promising prospect depth at D, and very little at forward...I would rather see Homer continue on his Path of Patience and develop what we have. I dislike sideways moves. This is why GMGM is one of my most disliked GMs, he specializes in those.

Little promising prospect depth at forward, but a glut on the Flyers squad and the team's top prospect at centre. Weber is Norris potential with a great shot and a mean streak; he's what we would joyously cry ourselves dehydrated if Morin became him. I'm not trying to short-change Couturier, but looking at the two formidable potential holes, I think Holmgren / Hextall could fill the Couturier-depth one easier.

It's for sure an intriguing hypothetical.

I also have much less faith in Laughton than most people; I'll believe he can be a Richards when I see it.

If he could be that, obviously it would make such a move very bearable.

Laughton could eventually replace Couturier as the third line center. But I agree with Beef it's a lot easier to replace Couturier on paper than it is to actually replace what he brings on the ice.

The unstated side of this discussion, of course, is Weber's contract, which would be another in a large group of sizeable, multi-year ones on the Flyers' books. This would severely temper my zeal to trade for Weber, as well as knowing that Poile wouldn't stop at just a Weber for Couturier swap.

per cap geek the Flyers payroll is at 54 million for next season. including Pronger.
Weber is a serious pipe dream that people really need to let go.
Obviously we dont know what the cap will be in 14/15 but they will have to sign 2 defenseman(one if you believe Gus is ready for fulltime duty) 2 goalies and resigning Steve Downie if the Flyers are willing to bring him back.
probably going to be another fun offseason next summer.

EDIT: Gus,Schenn and Raffl will be RFAs
Adam Hall will be a UFA. I am guessing if the Flyers dont bring him back Hal Gill retires.

30! Come on! That bum Hartnell can score 30! Coots needs to be putting up at least 40 to pair with his 60 assists.

Philly should be adding an ice skater to help the players become better skaters. It has worked very well with Toronto. Just imagine Couts with more speed!!

I just noticed that Malkin drops his stick as he skates off in disgust.
