I have to think that if we draft Eklbad, it gives us another year to let Nurse play Junior and fill out. Ekblad will be in the NHL next year. 1 year younger than the two, He weights 13lbs more than Jones, and 24lbs more than Nurse right now, while being the same height. He is ready.

If this team passes on Ekblad/Dal Colle for Draisatl, I'm becoming a Flames fan.

Talking seriously about top 3 draft picks at this time makes my tummy hurt.

Taking a look at the standings and the teams that are around us I can see the following teams being worse than us by the end of the year:
Buffalo
Calgary
Florida
Columbus

That means that we will draft 5th if a team behind us does not win the lottery.

Who do we take with the 5th over all pick?

If that is the case, Dal Colle and Ritchie are two good possibilities there.

Unless we pick up another dman we could try McKeown or Fluery?

Oilers are clearly the worst team in the NHL right now imo. Just wait until they play more Western games. The win against the Flames is a nice break in the doom... but it will take a lot more than that to get me to believe they'll be better than a bottom 2 team this year.

If only Jesse's catch phrase wasn't censored out.

"Breaking Blad...*****" would be ideal.

I have yet to see him, but I'm looking forward to it. From what I have read on him so far, sounds like he would be in the same class as Nurse. Good chance at being a top pairing guy, but nothing close to a guarantee.

Frankly Ekblad is the only d-man I'm interested in at this point. Aside from that, a forward with a good combination of size and skill is on my wishlist.

Ekblad, IMO has the potential to become a top 10 D in this league. McKeown would be a nice addition to Klefbom, Schultz, Nurse and Marincin. But not necessary when we're severely lacking forward depth.

I haven't been able to see him yet.

From Brock's early top 30 list:
Quote:
McKeown's development as a player has really impressed me this season. His play in his own end has always been a strength, but he's playing with a lot more confidence and has been nearly impossible to score against this season (a remarkable +21 so far). His reads and positioning in the defensive end are fantastic and he's playing with more piss and vinegar this year which is allowing him to win more battles in the corners and in front of the net. The area that has grown the most though is his ability to confidently carry and distribute the puck. He's showing no fear in leading the rush and jumping up to make plays offensively, possessing the confidence to know that he can get back defensively. His ability to run the powerplay and make reads on the point has also improved, even if I'd like him to try and use his shot a bit more. McKeown is going to play in the NHL for a long time; think Ryan Suter.
Even if we miss out on Ekblad, it would be tough not to get excited for a player like him.

Are you new? I think most of us have developed iron stomachs now. I don't have emotions when it comes to the Oilers anymore.

It's early but I wouldn't settle for him. His team leads the conference in scoring and he's getting PP time (unlike Nurse last year, who did most of his scoring at 5x5) but he's not putting up points like you'd expect. He also has more than half his points this season in just two games. Maybe he's not getting the bounces or maybe his tools will come online later on but right now, if there's a big forward with scoring talent available I think that player trumps everyone but Ekblad.

Knowing our luck, only one would turn out for us.

Remember when we used to say,

"Imagine how good this would look:

Hall - RNH - Eberle
PRV - Gagner - Yakupov"

Oof.

Probably as sick as Hall, RNH and Yakupov looks.

Er, wait.

No but seriously, I'm starting to think the team just wants to do a 2 phase rebuild. Wait till Hall and RNH are the 25 year old vets, then you have the young guys like Ekblad and McDavid on their ELCs.

Reinhart is 6'1 and Ekblad is the top defenseman. I would like either of those guys.
