I know it was a very small sample size but the games he played in the preseason he looked like he belonged in this league, and not as just some bottom pairing defender.
I think everything with Morin will depend on who the GM is next year. If it's Holmgren, I can see Morin staying with the big club for the 9 game trial at the very least. If it's Hextall or some other GM, I think it's very conceivable that they'd want Morin to go back to junior for one more season to really dominate there.

Former Flyers prospect Colin Suellentrop was mentioned in Elliotte Friedman's 30 Thoughts recently:

22. I heard that a couple of NHL teams were thinking about signing Colin Suellentrop of the OHL's Oshawa Generals. The 20-year-old defenceman was drafted in 2011 by Philadelphia, which decided against signing him. Suellentrop then went unclaimed last June, although he did attend Montreal's rookie camp. He's from Florida, which makes the Panthers a possibility. But it's also believed the New York Rangers are looking at him. He's worked hard to improve his skating and might be a classic late-bloomer.

Correction he won't be there, he'll be playing in some other tournament.

According to the Super Series thread in the "Prospects" forum, Vasiliev isn't coming over. Russia is sending the B-squad. I don't think any KHL'ers are playing.

Edit: Whoops sorry, I didn't see the above post.

Yup, players that are currently playing in the KHL will not be playing in the tournament due to league games going on.

It won't be because of them being in another tournament like I posted above though.

If we end up picking between 6 and 11, I want Holmgren to get creative, and find a way to get us Ekblad. We need that top-pairing defenseman, and it's not going to happen via free agency.

Morin had an assist as Rimouski got blown out 6-1. Bright spot, he was only a -1.

4-6-10 for him in 17 games.

In the category of prospects we never talk about:

Merrick Madsen seems to be playing fairly well. He is 3 and 3 with .915 save percentage, while his tending partner is 2-8-2.

When Stolie was in that league he finished the year with a 50-50 win loss ratio and a .920 save percentage.

I'm not saying this guy is as good as Stolie for the record I just like to talk about some of the guys we ignore sometimes.

Also is it just me or is Heeter not putting together a pretty decent season for the Phantoms so far?

Hagg playing right now, final period starts soon, Modo are 4-1 up so he will probably get some decent minutes.

Heeter overall played well last yr too. He was a victim of inconsistent play from himself, which is to be expected fr a first yr pro, and his teammates. The team also had less talent less yr as well frankly. I think he's got a shot at being a solid NHL backup in another yr or two.

Something is off in Rimouski. They were expected to be a powerhouse in the Q this year and their defense has been incredibly off. With all the acquisitions they made in the off season, they were expected to be a Memorial Cup challenger. They've been kind of mediocre this year.

That's a mediocre game, numbers-wise (.863 SV%). Does anyone know if there's more to the game than this?

I didn't watch it but the final score was 5-3 London. London outshot Ottawa 41-22.

Edit: Here's the highlights.

A couple of freakin gorgeous shots found the corner of the corners on him. Only watched a few of his games this year, but as good as he looked last year, he looks at yet another this season around. When he gets scored on, his reaction reflects his understanding of the mistake he made on the play (if any).

Thank you both. Yep, can't fault Stolarz on those, though he didn't have to go down on the last one.

Is anyone else concerned about the outlook of our defense the next two to three years? Realistically Ghost, Morin and Hagg probably won't be playing NHL minutes until about 2015. What are we going to do in the meantime?

Alt should be ready soon, maybe even next year. Ghost will probably need an AHL year after college so hopefully 2015. Hagg and Morin probably won't make it until 2016 at the earliest IMO. So band aids until then.

Streit-SOMEONE
Coburn-Grossmann
Gus-Schenn

There is also Alt who has been very impressive in the AHL and was a 2nd rounder.

Really to be a 'decent/average' NHL D (so in the 10-20 range) in that time they need to pick up a decent stop gap or make a trade for something more long term, or for Alt to step up and Gus to keep playing as he is and Schenn to get back to how he was.

Kimmo leaving will be a big loss, even this years Kimmo, he is still an awesome player in his own zone.

There are enough decent UFA guys who are top four to not worry too much, I imagine quite a few of them will make it all the way to UFA... but the key would be getting one who is not signed too long term or for too much, which is in my mind where the problem lies... if they could get a guy for 3 years at Streit kind of money I would not mind too much for a plug while the youngsters develop.

I trust the Flyers to go out and get one of the best available FAs... I just don't trust them to not overpay in money or years.
