And his numerous turnovers have lead to goals as well, for the other team.

He was essentially floating here ever since the second half of the 2011-2012 season.

There isn't much loss for the Hawks on this deal considering the two guys they traded probably aren't ever going to see much ice time with the big club. I have a feeling this gives Versteeg a new lease on his career and he elevates his game upon returning to the Hawks.

Florida got 2 replacement level NHL'ers. Versteeg should be a solid top-6/top-9 player with the Hawks. This certainly adds to our already strong forward depth.

He's playing for a terrible team. We have hard evidence that he is successful on the Hawks.

What a deal for the Hawks. Olsen has been a healthy scratch from time to time on the Icehogs and for some reason the Hawks couldn't get Hayes to use his 6'6" 220 pound frame. He plays more like a small forward. I was surprised to see Versteeg is only 27 years old. It's been so long since he's been here I thought he was more like 31 or 32.

Olsen was a first rounder who hasn't shown much thus far into his career, and Hayes was a 2nd rounder who has had some decent stats so far..

Anybody have more detail on what these guys can bring, and their potential ceilings?

I think Hayes has potential but probably not a top 6 guy. I did not like Olsen at all when he was called up. He was slow and looked very uncomfortable out there, typically out of position.

You'd be surprised how much playing for a winning team can motivate a player.

The return didn't really matter. It was more of getting Versteeg off our team than getting anything significant back. I'm just surprised it was Chicago.

Just because you're on a terrible team doesn't mean the player has to play terrible. This guy makes more turnovers than my grandma makes for thanksgiving. He is garbage coming out of his own zone, and I can't remember one time he actually brought the puck end to end without turning it over. He can't pass for his life, and he misses his shots 75% of the time. Glad we got rid of him, hope the best for you.. but wouldn't count on it.

Olsen is a stay at home D. Skating will always be his limitation. Think a Stanton on Canucks level player.

Hayes is the value for the panthers. Put up decent stats with the Hawks. Skates well for a guy his size. Hands aren't there.

Bottom pairing D and 3rd line wing. They are developed already and don't see much wiggle room on the upside or downside for either.

Just this year? I know nothing of the CBA but if that's possible, makes this quite a bit more confusing from Hawks end

Olsen and Hayes aren't bad prospects, but they aren't really fast enough to play the Hawks' game. Plus, they still have some development to do (Olsen more so than Hayes)

Glad to have Steeger back at half price. That 3RW slot has been lackluster so far this year. Hopefully he can bring some spark back to that spot, even though he's been struggling so far this year.

Great depth addition. Bickell--Shaw--Versteeg should be a good line.

I was angry about this until I saw Florida is paying 50% of his salary and then I was ok with it.

As a Hawks fan I am a little confused by it. I don't mind what we gave up as they will not be playing for us and are as ready for the NHL as they are going to be. I think we needed a more defensive minded third liner but let's see where this ends up.

I get it, he sucked for the Panthers. He fit well in the Hawks style before... to the tune of a Cup. I'm willing to bet 2.2 million he will be there again. If he is, people will shake their heads at a 2.2 mill cap hit for a 45 pt scorer on the third line, wondering how the Hawks keep fleecing Tallon.

Really like this for Florida, picked up two decent prospects for a player playing god awful.
