If Versteeg can get his game back on track than this deal is also good for the Hawks, especially considering Florida is eating half his cap hit.

Beg to differ.

Geez, Versteeg is only 27, but he's really made the rounds around the NHL.

Well, maybe he will spark back up. And trust me, I have seen a good Kris Versteeg, he played a great game and played harder than most of the guys on the team, he looked like a great 2nd line forward at one point. But he has lost his game, he just doesn't look there anymore. His motivation isn't there and he acts like he is Patrick Kane. He dangles and dangles and dangles and gets no where.

Well considering the fact he has played well with the Hawks before...we might be able to count on it.

Tallon gets a monument built for this.

Maybe Versteeg gets his head on straight going back to Chicago, but here he had devolved into a primadonna, selfish, lazy giveaway machine.

The Hawks are loaded with prospects at wing. If Versteeg regains his form, good for the Hawks. If not, then he'll be pushed down to Rockford and the Hawks will bring someone else up. They just called up Alex Broadhurst. Lots of interchangable parts for the third/fourth line wingers. Also gives Hayes and Olsen a better shot at making the show b/c it wasnt happening with Chicago. Also clears AHL roster space for the next wave.

He scored 54 points with the Panthers, and at one time was one of the best players on our roster. Not anymore.. guess we will see though, some players just regress. Look at Heatley, or Setoguchi, Havlat, Michalek..

And he still can't figure out why.

He looks cool chewing on his mouthpiece though. Stay pretty, Kris.

Good trade for both teams. Considering how Versteeg was playing in Florida i couldnt see them getting a lot. Olsen is a former 1st round pick while Hayes can provide stuff that the Panthers lack while both being young.

I also believe Versteeg will turn it around in Chicago. He just couldnt get fired up in a team that isnt competing for anything else than 1st overall. Keep in mind he is only 27 yrs old and had a solid season in 11-12. I see no reason why he wouldnt be able to return to that form. While back i was thinking if a contender team picks up Versteeg it could potentially be a steal.

He was still that back when he played in Chicago the first time around.

I guess the difference is that he clicked well on and off the ice with our core guys.

If there was any confusion

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 1m
FLA's retention of half of Versteeg's salary is not just for this season, it's for the balance of Versteeg's contract.

Versteeg will now become a 30 goal scorer for the Blackhawaks even though he was playing like crap here.

losing versteeg isn't important to florida

so basically it cost Florida half of Versteeg's contract to gain 2 of Chicago's prospects

it's a good deal
