Come on man, I'm a Caps fan and I know NOBODY has an interest in Brooks Laich. And they'd only have interest in Troy Brouwer if he was part of a larger package.

I think Barrie for Del Zotto makes sense for both teams and for both players
Barrie is in the AHL.

For comparison's sake, Goligoski had seasons of 20 (pro-rated to36), 37 and 31 (pro-rated to 42) before he was dealt to Dallas and his play has been in decline since the deal, and that's what teams are afraid of when it comes to trading for MDZ.
His last two seasons (41 points and pro-rated 37 in the short season) he has looked solid, in my opinion. While Staal was out he played some of the best hockey of his career. So far this year, he's been forced to play the right side and has struggled. I believe the Avs have been scouting the Rangers recently, not sure what they could add to Barrie or Elliott that interests me though.

Can we just forget that the Rangers are in our division for a minute? Would think MDZ would be an upgrade on our D but we wouldn't be able to get him.

I'd do something around MDZ for Demers. It fills a need for both teams - Sharks need a LHD, and MDZ would get top 4 minutes with Boyle in all likelihood. Demers is stuck behind a lot of RHD depth, but could flourish in NYR where he'd be an offensive RHD that they need. I actually like that trade straight up.

Rangers have interest in Cammy at retained salary? If not, Stempniak, Butler, and a pick?

Just a general question: who A) is considered better and B) has more upside: Tyson Barrie or Stefan Elliott?

Nope. We don't want older players. MDZ is 23. He will be traded for a player(s) of similar age.

Avs likely won't trade any players on offense at this point other then prospects. As far as D we could send Wilson back with someone as well?

The way Baertschi has played as of late id almost offer him. But theres still the glimmer of hope, and I dont really think we have any younger roster players with similar value.

I haven't seen a lot of him, but is he primarily an offensive d-man? I've heard good things but he's never put up more than 24 points. Del Zotto has had 37 and 41 point seasons. If Demers is primarily an offensive d-man, I would want a bit more coming back. He's 2 years older, as well.

If posting seasons of 37, 41 and 20 (in 48 games) puts you on the outs with a coach, then yeah, MDZ was on the outs with Torts.

MDZ improved from his sophmore slump season to his 3rd year. He had a very good year last year as well because while Defence is his primary position, his skill set lends itself better to being a guy that can be dangerous offensively.

If there were a need, Torts would JUMP at the chance to get him in Vancouver.

The problem with MDZ is that he's not a very smart individual and all I have heard from Vancouver fans that have stopped by the Rangers board is that the players on Defence have to be pretty smart to play the system AV plays. Lots of reads and reacts based on who's out on the ice and such. I think that MDZ has been slower than most other players to "get it" and it's reflecting.

Do I think MDZ is available? he was available last year as well. Thats no stretch.

Do I believe his benching is the result of a pending transaction? No.

Do I believe they are holding him out while they shop him? No.

What I believe is that AV has seen what the earlier demotion of Kreider has done for him. What the healthy scratching of Zucc's has done for him and is probably looking (hoping) for a similar reaction from MDZ when he gets him back in the line up.

All of that said, lets not forget that AV, in addition to implementing a more complex scheme, has been asking MDZ to play the Right Side which is tough enough on its own, but he's asking MDZ to do this as we try to shake out of the early season spiral.

Why would the Caps want Del Zotto when they already have the king of flaky offensive D-men in Green?

Wilson is left-handed, I believe. DZ is on the block because we already have too many LHD.

He's played as a shutdown d in the top 4 a couple of seasons ago. He was in the doghouse last year, but has re-established his place as a top 4 d-man thus far. I would argue he's at least as good as MDZ, but gets less attention than the latter. I think their potential is pretty similar - MDZ may have slightly higher offensive upside, but Demers has slightly higher defensive upside. Very similar players aside from that - and both fill a positional need for the other team. Imo, it's a very good trade, but I'd like to hear other people's thoughts. I've always been a Demers defender, and I would hate to give him up, but when he's got Braun and Boyle ahead of him on the depth chart, there's no chance he'll beat them - especially with the way Braun has played.
