It's gone back and forth over the years.

Barrie has played better overall at the pro level in general. In his own zone he's looked alright and improved over the last 3 years. I think he ended up leading our D core in scoring last year somehow

Elliot had a great start with the team 2 years ago maybe? He has a wicked wrist shot. His shots tend to find the net or goalie which is good. After a strong start his play fell off with the rest of the team. He seemed to struggle a bit with confidence. His first showing last year wasn't great, but by the end of the season he was playing pretty strong on the front and and back end. Elliot has started off playing great in the AHL based on reports.

I'd say it's a wash overall at this point.

Apparently he had a bad camp this year. Honestly I think Barrie and Elliot fell somewhat victim to attrition of the contracts they're on. Holden, Hunwick and Guenin would all have to go through waivers.

Roy kinda screwed the pooch telling Guenin to get a place in Denver, but it looks like he's locked down in Denver. Something will change soon IMO.

What about Del Zotto to Nashville for Forsberg and Ekholm? Don't get to see the Preds much so I may be off in value.

Why would the Preds trade a forward with offensive upside for another d-man?

Perhaps Alex Goligoski if they want an RD with similar talent but a guaranteed contract?

I like Brouwer, but I'd want more for MDZ.

I also like Urbom as well.

We're happy with what Talbot has done so far. Goalie isn't a position of immediate concern.

I think if he moves to any team where he gets to play on the left side of the ice, he's a top-4 quality defenseman. Just about all of his struggles come from that.

Sharks could use a LD, what would rangers be looking for? Don't ask for Hertl

An equivalent RD or a young-ish forward with offense.

I would love to trade MDZ. While at times through his NYR career he seems brilliant, he tries to often to do to much offensively, and gets into trouble.

I'd be happy with a RD who is young, and has some potential.

That interests me, a whole lot.. Throw in a bottom 6 defensemen then we have a deal. Anyways I doubt Sather would make a deal like that.

We probably make pretty good trading partners then. Though I hate to move him Demers is likely who you'd want there. Looks like he's returning to form after a wrist injury last year and having a very good start to the season. RD, similar age, still an RFA. Not RD but Irwin could be another option as well. Demers is a boyle-lite, Irwin has a big shot.

Forward wise we would consider moving Kennedy, Sheppard, or maybe Nieto (that would hurt). Wingels is likely unavailable with the insane start to the season he's having, but you never know.

Prospects wise we are stacked at D, take your pick (Doherty, Petrecki, Albetshauser, Acolotse, Tennyson, all NHL ready or near ready). Forward wise we have Hamilton (protypical 3rd line center), Tennyson (pure offensive player) near NHL ready.

Any of that of interest?

The fact that he's a LD on a team with Staal and McDonagh as part of its core and a very serviceable young John Moore able to hold down the third pairing makes him expendable. His raw talent is extremely high. Not just offensively; he makes great recoveries on plays that look impossible fairly often and also plays with grit, both willing to play the body and block shots. His biggest problem is easily his decision making. But he's on the block partially because you have to give to get and he is a valuable chip that, due to other factors, is expendable. We have needs elsewhere and a surplus on LD. If you want to improve another position you have to be willing to move something of value and MDZ has value, he just isn't essential with the other players we have at his position.

Isn't a bottom 6 defenseman the same as a Top six defenseman?

Demers has come up on our boards too. I'd be interested. The Sharks would have to add, though. Something involved DZ, Demers and Nieto?

That package won't get Petry. Nope. We could do something around Potter though.
