There is also Alt who has been very impressive in the AHL and was a 2nd rounder.

Really to be a 'decent/average' NHL D (so in the 10-20 range) in that time they need to pick up a decent stop gap or make a trade for something more long term, or for Alt to step up and Gus to keep playing as he is and Schenn to get back to how he was.

Kimmo leaving will be a big loss, even this years Kimmo, he is still an awesome player in his own zone.

There are enough decent UFA guys who are top four to not worry too much, I imagine quite a few of them will make it all the way to UFA... but the key would be getting one who is not signed too long term or for too much, which is in my mind where the problem lies... if they could get a guy for 3 years at Streit kind of money I would not mind too much for a plug while the youngsters develop.

I trust the Flyers to go out and get one of the best available FAs... I just don't trust them to not overpay in money or years.

This scares me. Kimmo said he hasn't ruled out playing next year but, even if he does... It won't be pretty. The upcoming UFA class doesn't look too young, either.

We only really have to bandaid the 3rd pairing. Perhaps Ghost steps into that role early.

Streit bumps into Timonen's role. Gus gets bumped up. Then someone takes Gus's vacated spot.

If Morin or Hagg is ready sooner then so be it.

Best case scenario is one more year of Timonen in my opinion.

He's been extremely impressive. I remember reading he has almost been hitting 25 mins a night. The few games I have seen he was the teams best defender.

what kind of player is he, I've never seen him, I know he's tallish at 6'3 I think, so he has room to add some meat, is he more of a stay at home guy or does he have some two way to his game?

He won't ever be a point producer at the NHL level. Just doesn't have that type of offensive game.

He reminds me of Coburn actually. He probably won't be as good as Coburn, but that type of player.

I would only take Kimmo back next season at $3million or less. If he demands another big payday then he can go.

Streit moving into Timonen role is not a great move

As it stands right now, we dont have a legit #1 defenseman

Streit has probably been better then Kimmo overall this year anyway or at least the same so it's not a big deal. We aren't talking about Streit taking over for 2008 Kimmo. They're just saying he'll become our go to PMD who will be looked to for loads of pp minutes and to provide ES offense, which he is doing now anyway.

Easily the most over-used comparison on this board.

Why? That's who he reminds me of.

Both are good athletes, really good skaters for their size, questionable hockey IQ, and mediocre offensively.

It is the easy way of saying 'lots of physical and natural talent but it is a crap shoot if he can combine it with some IQ and gain consistency!'

Which is a nice catch all for a good proportion of NHL D men... most have talent, not many put it together.

I do understand that specific comparison though. Both are very athletic and bigger guys.

Does he even have any pp points? I think all six of his points have come at ES. I'm not saying he's great at even strength just that he's produced more then anyone else and is looked to to provide that.

RPI coach Seth Appert just said Shayne Gostisbehere is the best player in the country and that includes BC forward Johnny Gaudreau.

Stolarz preserved a win tonight for London. He stopped 27 of 29. He wasn't the original starter but came in to start the second period because of an injury to Jake Patterson. Patterson was still credited with the win because the Knights were up 2-1 when he left the game.

Laughton & Gostisbehere both scored 2 goals tonight.

Reece Willcox picked up an assist tonight.

Important to note that tonight was basically Stolarz's third game in three nights. He played 8 periods of hockey in that span to be exact.

Ghost

For those of you, who haven't seen Ghost play...He is definitely gifted as an offensive defenseman. He QB's Union's power play and plays very confidently. He's got great speed (even on bad ice). Defensively he does okay, right now. He needs to get stronger so he can handle people in front of his own net. He had 2 goals and an assist in a lopsided game. Union had tons of power plays in their last game against RPI so it was really playing to his strengths.
