Devils beating ****sburgh is probably better for us. Only 4 points behind them now with a game in hand.

Yes, Falk was very solid tonight. Even got some shots through from the blueline.

Kreider was a monster out there. His speed helped back off Montreal and get us more space.

Another PP goal... what a difference a coach makes.

Let the Devils and Islanders do whatever.
The Rangers just have to look after their own game, and show up like they did tonight.

No it's not. We would be better off coming second in the division than first.

I thought the Rangers played a great road game.

I also thought the Habs looked like a team playing the 2nd of back-to-backs.

Eh, maybe. Right now, the 5th place team in the Atlantic only has 2 more points than the 4th place in the Metro (and 3 more than 5th place in the Metro). I think the teams that are really bubble teams (of which we might be one) are about equal in the two divisions, despite the hot start of some of the teams in the Atlantic.

True, but winning the division is only gets you an advantage if you have more points than the other division winner. If you don't have more points, you're always better off not winning the division. As of now, I don't think the metro division winner will finish with more points than the atlantic division winner.

First shutout in Montreal since Ed Giacomin did it in a 5-0 win on Feb. 25, 1967.

Huh? They'll still play a wild card team that's most likely not going to be as good as the 3rd place team in your own division. Winning the division gets you an advantage anyway: guaranteed home ice in the first two rounds of the playoffs. It's not better to come in 2nd. Ever.

Don't care what seed we get if we make the playoffs. No team in the east is scary.

It's never an advantage to come in second?

Ottawa (18)

Metro:
Pittsburgh (22)

Boston (23) vs Detroit (23)

Metro Round 1:
Pittsburgh (22) vs. Toronto (23)
Washington (21) vs New York Rangers (18)

Look at the Metro playoffs. As of now, it looks like it might be a disadvantage to be the #1 seed in that division.

I just got home after being away on a dinner party that went long (4 AM), and this was the best possible thing to come home to! A win in Montréal!!!

McDonagh-Girardi after all the **** I've been giving them as a pairing seems to have had a dominant game for once. Great indication, if they can keep this going I would even condone re-signing Girardi.

Though I don't get the praise for Falk, the Falk-Moore pairing started almost all of their shifts in the offensive zone, yet were badly outshot. But I didn't have the opportunity to watch this one so maybe they were at least decent. I still think there is likely a big amount of confirmation bias regarding the praise for Falk in this thread.

We also seem to have outplayed the Habs pretty badly (63% Close), if we can keep this going we should be able to challenge for #1 in the East. Especially if Nash gets back into the lineup soon.

Apart from the fact that the score was close throughout the game and that the win was in some sort of jeopardy, this seems to have been pretty much the perfect game!

Keep this going!

~10% discrepancies in games played don't give you an accurate picture... not to mention that schedule imbalances haven't played themselves out yet. Let's revisit in March. My prediction is that, either the 3rd place team in both divisions will have more points than both wild cards or, if not, the difference won't be worth more than having home ice (within a 3 or 4 points).

3. Falk - throwing him a bone, this could have been Callahan or Richards. Very pleased with his game tonight, he was sound in his own end, made some nice plays to keep the forecheck/cycle alive a few times, and was nasty in front of the net. Keep this guy in the lineup, please.
I'd put Price as the #1 star...he was frikkin amazing. I can't believe he only gave up 1. At least 3 or 4 HOLY **** saves by him...

though im guessing we're just counting our team.

Kreider was a man amongst boys tonight. imposed his will on the opposition...that hit on Emelin was amazing, the dude is a freak of nature.

Love it.

Good game by Talbot. The Stepan line had, imo one hell of a game, but Price was the best player on the ice. Hagelin I thought was our best player, just kept motoring their D into the ground.

The referees, I thought missed one or two calls against our guys. No complaints here.

Now, get a point out of that LA game.
