Mikhail Grabovski

What kind of deal is he likely to get in Free Agency? Can Washington afford to keep him?

Anyways, is there a player more lucky then him money wise? Yes he got bought out but in the long term that is going to get him a bunch more cash.

Basically he get 18 million for 48 games of hockey for 2012-2013... I'm surprised it took him to sign as long as it did, thought he would have got another long term deal... instead the one year deal he signed with Washington looks like a genius move.. he keeps up anything close to pace he is on now he will get another long term big money deal.

Just how big? 5 years, 30 million?

No way is he worth 6m a year. I think he's worth 5m a year. But in free agency, there will probably be a desperate and dumb GM that will throw him a 7 year 42 million dollar deal.

He has some flaws in his game, and seemingly some personality issues in the dressing room. My guess is 4-4.5m over 3-4 years. I don't think Washington will try and resign him.

Why wouldn't the Caps try to re-sign him? He's been wonderful. No personality issues at all, and he's had great chemistry with Chimera and Ward on what's been our best line at even strength. Simply put, we love the guy in DC.

Right now, Grabo is the only expiring contract on the Caps that's not coming of their ELC. If the cap goes up to 70M, they'll have nearly 10M in cap room. I wouldn't count on Grabo making it to free agency.

Grabovski doesn't have any dressing room issues... not sure where that came from, unless your last memory of him is in a Montreal jersey.

5.5 mil for 5 years, which is exactly what he's worth.

Burke got it right.

There were also no locker room issues in Toronto. Not sure about Washington.

Buying him out so they could give an even bigger deal to Clarkson was such an embarrassing move by Nonis.

Pretty sure he'll get a lot of interest. My bet is he'll sign with a contender in need of 2nd line center like Chicago, Vancouver or Anaheim if they can find the cap space.

If that doesn't work well there could be a spot on Nashville, Phoenix, Calgary, Panthers, NJ, teams that desperately need offense.

Clarkson is a big mean winger, Grabovski is a small skill center. If you can't figure out why a team might do that then I don't know what to say.

Grabo is awesome. His deal with the Leafs was pretty much what it should be.

Because size and physicality are that much more important than actually being able to play hockey, right?

Did you deliberately omit the positional part?

Lets make a list of small centers and big wingers. I bet the amount of small centers nearly double the big wingers. Hell, label Clarkson a Power Forward and the list is even smaller.

He's a smallish center that busts as much ass as guys bigger and heavier than he is.

He was my favourite leaf and definitely got screwed here by the way Carlysle likes to set-up his lines.

Still disappointed we got rid of him to sign Clarkson to an analogous deal. I mean, I can at least rationalize amnestying him- but the Clarkson signing (he's been good for us but strictly as a 3rd line grinder, if you can't produce, you don't deserve his deal ,period.)

Was really one of those WTF moments for our leafs.

His worth? 5mil on the open market, easily. Wouldn't be surprised if he got even more.

True, but if I'm sending a guy out against Chara or Lucic, more often than not I'd prefer Clarkson.

Almost as bad as letting a top 3 defender walk for free in free agency?

I will be very surprised/angry if he leaves DC. He's perfect where he is. He's getting PP time and is 3rd on the team in points.

Hopefully Grabo appreciates the opportunity given to him and shows a little loyalty to the Caps if he does hit FA. I'd much rather throw money at Mikhail than at Ribeiro.

George better not **** this up. Sign him.

Centers have more value in this league than wingers.

I'm really glad folks in Washington appreciate Grabovski. Some of the comments about him here are giving me flashbacks of when he was appreciated in Toronto

Yup. Absolutely horrific move. Buyout your top possession C and use those funds on Clarkson and bringing back that possession black hole Bozak. Nice one Nonis!

We've been looking for a Grabovski for the better part of the decade, specifically since Federov hung them up. I absolutely love watching Grabo play. He's fearless; he'll battle anyone of any size in the corner, he'll go straight to the net and take a beating trying to get a tip in or a rebound, and he elevates the play of those around him. He's simply been fantastic.
