For the most part these wins have been the result of us being outplayed, getting lucky and grabbing a couple, and then winning by one goal. I understand a win is a win but this type of play isn't going to be sustainable for long.
All I'm saying is that the injuries and lack of production haven't imploded the team (yet) as they have in seasons past. They're certainly still worth being concerned about.

I just watched the replay of the hit. "literally no one saw Semin get hit"? what??? really??? EVERYONE saw the hit for **** sake. I'd be surprised if Staal didn't feel it too. if that's really what he said, the replay clearly shows that Staal, for whatever reason you choose to believe, is lying! wow......just wow.

In the NHL article (since deleted), Staal said: "It was so fast I didn't really see what happened. [Semin] came around from behind the net, haven't seen the replay. It was heavy but it happened so quickly."

He didn't see what happened... but he knows it was heavy... even though he hasn't seen the replay. Yep something doesn't add up. Whatever the case, I'm sure Staal did above and beyond what's expected of a star captain

Very interesting.

Aside from the implication of a lie (SRSLY?), what remedy or solution does this line of thinking wish to see happen, post-hit, that somehow makes things "right" and the game more winnable? Or, to be honest, do anything besides satisfy some itch I don't understand.

Is it better if it ends with Reaves or Stewart beating the **** out of someone? Because you know that's exactly what could have happened.

Apparently my failure to understand this is taking what Eric Staal says at face value.

Or you guys could stop taking a quote (that I haven't even seen) so literally. "No one saw it" could easily mean no one could tell if it was a clean hit or not.

It's pretty clear that Staal is jealous of Semin and was happy that he got hit

I was drunk when I posted that, but yeah that was the transcript of what he said. Clean or not, and it's tough to tell live, you want to see some sort of scrum from the Canes. Not even necessarily a fight, just any sort of emotion or reaction. I get that the play was still going and the Blues were taking the puck up the ice, but, as far as Carolina was concerned, there was no hit and no injury. I don't like that

I just did the math, the actual % is about 60%. The Blues broadcast must have been misinformed.

yeah something.... just out of curiosity, or perhaps watching more with an eye for it when catching the recent highlights from other games, every time a player got creamed legally or not, there was an immediate and stern reaction by whoever was on the ice. immediate!

Staal saw everything (they all saw everything and damn well knew exactly what it was) unless he had his eyes closed and stepped over Semin. I don't care who it was. it's a teammate. you stand up for each other. you send a message. you establish an identity. then and there regardless of what's happening in the game. especially this time in the season.

like I said, Semin stood up some for Staal a while back. I wonder who if anyone would have stepped up if it was someone else other than the Captain (who should be leading that charge but never will). and then indicate that he didn't see it, etc. blah, blah, blah. excuse for inaction and maybe, just maybe a little guilt or shame in there as well. that right there has deeper implications and points to other dysfunction within the team IMO. no fire at all simply put.

Clean hit or not (this was clean) on one of your star players deserves some sort of reaction, what a ****ing disgrace. Exactly why teams have no respect for us.

The only way it gets better is if it includes Staal stepping over Semin's corpse.
