Habs scouting the Avs

per Adrian Dater
Quote:
Just one Eastern NHL team scouting the Avs-Panthers game tonight…And that team is the Montreal Canadiens. The Habs have really been scouting the Avs heavily this season, despite only having one more game with them this season. Do they want those two points that bad? Or are they scouting Avs players for a possible trade pitch? I think it’s the latter. Names they are looking at? Probably Paul Stastny at No. 1, followed by John Mitchell at No. 2.

Don't understand why the Habs would be looking at centerman as they already have a log jam there. Seems interesting enough though.

Who on the Avs is 5'7" or shorter?

That's who the Habs will be looking at.

Adrian Dater is not thinking too clearly. Montreal is too close to the cap to be able to afford Stasty, and have a log jam at centre as it is. Stastny is a free agent at season's end as well. I doubt the Avs are going to do a Gorges and DD for Stastny deal, so there is nothing to see here...

That's because you aren't using Dater logic. The players he wants Avs to trade are the ones other teams want. He's wanted Stastny traded for three years now.

Other players he doesn't like, for no real reason, are Varlamov and EJ Johnson.

Is Cliche any good at face-offs? He might be someone the Habs are targeting for the 4th line.

Just dreadful, I'm not sure how he's even in the Avs' lineup over a guy in the minors like Brad Malone. Not sure what Roy saw in Cliche at the start of the season that he guaranteed him the 13th forward spot, but he absolutely sucks

How many times has Dater used the Stastny rumors...it's like a lightning strike I guess...he'll be right about it even if Stastny is signed and traded 10 years from now because he keeps talking about it.

I feel sorry for Avs fans that they have to put up with Dater. I don't read him much, but when I do, he seems like a total ass clown. Can't stand the way he conducts himself in his writing, he just always seems to be aggravated at someone/something.

That's tall bro... we're not interested at that height. Gotta be under that, and under 160 lbs.

We'll take Johnson. Would something around Boullion + DD + 2nd work?

I joke, I joke, I kid, I kid.

Well... He was claimed off waivers, so doesn't that mean he HAS to be on the roster for 30 days once claimed?

Cliche is really bad at faceoffs, yes. But I actually think he's been very good aside from that.

Maybe it means trading a center back?

If anything, we need depth on defense or even another top 6 winger.

Possibly, but as Dater said, it seems the Habs are heavily scouting the Avs, and it's not for strategic reasons, as the Habs and Avs don't play again until March.

They could also be scouting the Panthers for Matthias and/or Kulikov.

As long as you are willing to pay his medical bills. He can barely stay healthy for more than 2 weeks.

That's on the tab of the Quebec government, so that's not a problem.

On a serious note, I thought MB would target him, but now I doubt it.

I think it's Florida personally myself.

Tallon was in Montreal a few weeks back during one of our games and seen talking with Bergevin.

Montreal scouts seen scouting Florida recently at different games.

Tallon and Bergevin together at the Rochester vs Hamilton(Montreal affiliate) just a couple days ago.

Now Montreal scouting an Avs game but they are playing Florida.

My bet it's Florida and couldbe trying to get something done.
