To your original deal, and will say this trade happens tomorrow so you get more games out of Miller.

Miller

for

Halak, 1st 14, Rattie (this removes your 2nd)

Buffalo then flips Halak to Nashville

Rattie won't be included since Miller is an UFA. Halak, 1st and 2nd and a mid prospect is more than fair, and that's with Buffalo eating 50% of his salary this year. More than fair

Halak has been on a downward slope since the first game of Nov., and his numbers over the 6 Nov. games he has started reflect it's getting worse. The guys just not dependable to stay healthy or play well. He's been off since they played Tampa Nov. 2nd, can't tell if it's the groin or disinterest or both but he's been noticeably a step slower.

Here is his line in the 6 games he's started in Nov.,

3-2-1 SV% .867 GAA 3.01

that's not good, and after tonight, it looks to only be getting worse.

While both are fine prospects, I like Jaskin more -- that combination of size, skill, and physical play are tough to find.

Any deal with the Blues likely would have to have Buffalo retaining upwards of half of Miller's remaining salary. They have the space and the owner to eat it.

If they want the 1st + Halak + another prospect or maybe another pick (and are keeping some salary) ok fine. But the difference isn't big enough to include one of those pieces.
My thoughts as well.

I doubt they would get a prospect such as Rattie or Jaskin on top of a 1st, 2nd, and Halak but I could see Carrier being a piece that could be moved. If they wanted to upgrade from Carrier to Jaskin or Rattie the 2nd would have to come out of the deal.

Nowhere in my proposal did I mention Jaskin or Rattie, much less Schwartz or Tarasenko.

Halak + 1st + 2nd + mid level prospect (if needed)

Some Blues fans have hinted at wanting to upgrade offense as well.

What about something built around..

Miller - 50% salary retained
Moulson

for

2014 1st
2015 1st
Jaskin

and salary dump if needed.

Why are we giving up so much for a UFA Miller? This seems pretty reactionary after a loss.

Counter: Halak, Jaskin, conditional pick based on playoff series wins this season for Miller (50% retained). The pick starts as a third and goes up to as second if the Blues advance to the 2nd round and a 1st if they win the Cup.

Done! We take it and run, come on guys be real, plus they retain 50% of Miller's contract. A goaltender like Miller behind our D, my goodness we would be sooo good

I remember watching him play a few times in Moncton and getting the "wow" factor.

In regards to the trade.

I would really think about

Halak, 1st 14, 2nd 14 and Carrier for Miller

I would do

Halak, 1st 14, and their choice of Jaskin/Rattie for Miller (50% retained), conditional 2nd if Miller doesn't resign (likely to almost be a 1st rounder with Buffalo's projected next year or two)

Even tho they are free agents their value is still a 1st plus... I don't know how you can deny that.

Jaskin isn't getting moved for Miller.

Supply and demand. How many teams will trade for Miller at the deadline? Every playoff team could use a forward or defenseman at the deadline. Not many if any team will need a goalie. You can't expect the same return.

Not many. But it's not all about supply and demand...if your GM feels it will put him over the top for the Cup.

I don't know how many times this has to be said. Rattie and Jaskin are not being traded for a UFA Miller.

Then trade them somewhere else for that price, we're not giving it up.
