Mike Green

A gifted player who is really starting to look like the odd man out in Washington. Carlson has stepped his game up and Green isn't the same elite offensive defenseman he used to be.

The Caps need defense, what would other teams offer for Mike Green?

I'd love to have Marc no denying that but Staal +2nd for Green is insane

That's ridiculous offer.
Staal will not be moved for Green.

From an outside perspective, that looks like a very good trade. Not too sure how Staal has looked post injury though.

Green is overpaid and is a disaster defensively.

Ah, so you really don't have any good rationale. But I'd rather not argue about this. Let's agree to disagree. I'm no Green fan, FYI, though.

And you didn't have any good rational either.

*Rationale. But did I need to provide any? You're the one making assumptions and assertions, not me.

What rationalee (I added an extra e just in case you need 1) do you have for it being a good trade?

Ah ****, you got me - I'm a spelling nazi/grammar nazi sometimes. But still, as an outsider, it seems to fill a need for both teams. I think the Caps need a top 4 hard hitting defensive d-man, while the Rangers need an offensive (or literally any) RHD. Green, paired with McDonagh, could do some serious damage. That would leave Girardi (another defensive D) to cover up for MDZ's deficiencies. Personally, I see that as a very good defence, but you obviously disagree.

Mike Green is not a disaster defensively. He's above-average defensively, he's physical, blocks shots, is a good skater and is one of the very best PPQB's in the league.

I have no idea how one could say "Green is looking like the odd-man out".. He leads the team in TOI/G

Isn't the same, but still elite. He's evolutionized his game and he is well above half point per game.

I don't believe Green belongs in the top 2 at ES.
If, big if, the Rangers acquire Green it'd be to pair with Staal on the 2nd D pair, not at the expense of Staal.
He is still a force on the PP (Not what he used to be, but still), but is he worth his caphit? I don't believe so. The Rangers don't have the cap space to fit him anyway.

Neutral perspective that thinks Staal and Green are pretty close value-wise.

I think both player's value have dropped considerably with Staal bringing extra risk, comparatively. I think it just depends what you need on a team.

With that said, Staal has the better contract so he would have slightly higher value, wouldn't say the Rangers would/should have to add on top of him for Green.

Understandable. I don't know either team's needs well enough to definitively make a call either way. Personally, I think he's grown somewhat underrated and IS worth his cap hit though.

What is this, 4 years ago?

Green is a one-man breakout that could probably be a big boon to a Rangers team that needs it, but the adding of the picks made me laugh. You're taking that a little too far in the other direction, though.

How about This: MDZ + Pyatt + mid pick for Green with 1M retained.

Pick any of the Canucks top four D men. They all have NTC'S but this is all hypothetical anyways so what the hell. We'd have to shed some cap weight though and I have no interest in thinking about that portion of it, lol.
