No bone in this offer but
1st- The Kings are offering a bit to much with the Addition of Brown.
2nd -But on the other hand Benn is > Carter whether L.A. homers want to admit it or not.

This makes zero sense. Why would Dallas trade away their 24-year old captain for a 28-year old Carter and a 29-year old Brown? It's not as if Dallas is exactly trying to win now.

LA actually is trying to win now, so why would they trade away two pieces that helped them win the Stanley Cup only a year and a half ago?

This is absolutely awful for both teams.

His numbers may not be there but benn>carter. The old mantra of carter only scores in blowouts is unfortunately somewhat true I feel. I just don't feel the kings will win another cup with this lineup but hey this is a league of parity amirite? Nething can happen so forgot the op. Might as well end thread. How bout those clippers?
Please, go through Carter's games and show me to what percentage his goals have come in blowouts. I think you'd be pretty surprised.

I will say that in terms of sheer value, Benn is greater than Carter. If we weren't a Stanely Cup level team and Carter wasn't part of that Stanley Cup level team, I'd be quite interested in a Carter for Benn swap. Carter scores more goals but I think overall, Benn is just a better player.

That said, even with his big contract, in no way is the difference between Carter and Benn Dustin Brown.

No, no he's not. I love Benn, have followed him since junior and I think he's hugely underrated. If he were in Toronto he'd be hailed as a god. That said, he is not better than Carter and Brown combined.

Benn is better than Carter and right now I guarantee his value is higher, but Carter is a darn good player in his own right. Wish we had him as our #2 center.

Throw in Dustin Brown and that's 2 excellent players for one but I'm still not trading Benn. He's the best player in the deal, the youngest, and our franchise player and he and Seguin are special together so far.

"Great playmaker"?

Only 26 forwards since 2005-2006 with over 500 GP have averaged less assists per game than Carter.

Almost all of those players are grinders.

He's probably the worst playmaking point producer in the NHL.

Carter is a lot of things. But a great playmaker isn't one of them. Sure from time to time, he makes some pretty plays, and some smart passes... but he's a shoot first center... One of the reasons he's better on the wing, than in the middle.

I see what you did there but that's not how it works. The truth is Benn's best season is 55 points. Brown alone has done better.

This is a comment that falls right in the middle of the reasonable zone.

Huh?

His best season to date is 63 points and a +15 rating in 71 games. That was at age 22.

The guy is a winger who was brought up as a center the last couple seasons. He spent his first couple seasons moving around the lineup playing quite a bit with Ott and Burish, but also saw some time with guys like Ribeiro, Modano, and Eriksson. He's only now blossoming as a player and being placed back in to his proper position with a proper centerman.

Niether team makes this trade . Brown is the ideal king with his phyiscal play and would be missed alot for what he contribute both on and off the ice. Dallas would/should be worried about Carter going into full sulk mode again without his bromance of richards. No trade everyone walks away with the feeling they did the right thing

My bad -- missed that for some reason. Nonetheless, his top end so far on goals is 26. Carter did that in the shortened season last year -- on a team where goal scoring goes to die. Yes, Benn is a very good young player with lots of potential . Talk to me when he pots at least 30 and gets a playoff game or two under his belt.

Anyone who says Carter isn't good defensively is a moron. Watch a couple games if his and then comment

So are we, or are we not counting this season?

Point totals:

Benn- 23
Carter- 9
Brown- 7

Carter has a broken foot. Brown missed tc and still has a knee problem.

I love Benn and hope he makes team Canada. There is no way Dallas trades their face of the franchise for the next ten + years.
As far as value I think Dallas does get better overall after this deal, but they still do not make it
Hilarious how some feel Carter is one dimension and only scores in blow outs. The kings rarely ever even have blow outs and he led the West in Goals last year. Also he kills his fair share of penalties and is great at using his reach to stick check.

It's been pointed out the injuries already, and the 2 teams and the kings play defense first, so stats aren't the tell all. People who claim carter is not good defensively shows to me people are making assumptions by looking only at the stat sheet. It's a shame, carter is nothing like he was with philly.

When healthy, he is a top 5 sniper in the league, while playing on an offensively challenged team. It's impressive and greatly under rated by a lot of people.
