First off, I agree with the length of the suspension. It was a spur-of-the-moment act by Nichol, but not acceptable. If Spacek had corkscrewed Nichol and Nichol hadn't had a chance to retaliate, but on his next shift out sucker-punched Spacek, then the suspension would have been at least double. That's pre-meditation. That's what Bertuzzi did. (The fact that Moore smashed his face on the ice when he went down made that incident seem worse. There's the philosophical debate - whether the extent of the injury should affect the length of a suspension? Anyhoo...)
The saddest thing about this to me though, is that this Nichol incident is what was needed for hockey to be discussed on Pardon the Interruption for the first time in ages. Argh! There are so many other stories going on in the league that would require much more time to discuss than this incident. The drop off in scoring by many of last season's leaders. The scoring race this season. The insurge of new, young talent. (It's a revolution!)
thats because the league has gone down hill since the new rules. I love the no holding and no hooking, but my god can I see some physical hockey. I actually enjoy watching SPHL hockey more then I do NHL hockey sometimes. Thats just not how it should be.
