Would you trade Labarbera for Asham?

Exact same contract. Oilers goaltending at the minor league level seems pretty crowded already. Bachman is a very capable #3.

For sure, if all parties were on the same page

Asham doesn't do a lot for me. I'd prefer to see if anyone grabs him on waivers. But if no one does, I'd be ok with that trade, and then we'd waive Asham or Jones. Like you said, we have too many crap goalies in the minors and need to clear some clutter.

Dubnyk/Brygalov in the NHL

Bunz/Brossoit in the AHL until one of them struggles

Labarbera reports to bakersfield and backs up Chet Pickard

I've actually liked Labarbera back to his early days with the Kings and wasn't against the signing this summer. He seemed like a decent backup option at the time, but he's been an absolute disaster all year. Hopefully he gets claimed and we can close the book on him completely.

Honestly he was crap for us, but at the same time Bulin got 1.75mil from Chicago because they thought our defense was the reason for his poorer numbers. Doubt he gets claimed, but who the hell knows with how some GM's think.

bad signing. couldnt believe Mac-T and scouting actually had this dude on radar. i feel bad for the guy that he got put into such a horrendous situation regardless of his very sub-par play.

im sure everyone is going to jump down Bryz's throat as soon as the team gong shows it up defensively against real teams - and he makes some idiotic comment. can't wait. clown college.

I was thinking the Kings might go back down that road with Quick out right now.

There must be a few teams looking for goalies, but with the way Labarbera has played this year I bet they'd all be willing to give prospects a chance first. These teams have goalies on the IR:

Carolina: Khudobin, Ward
Chicago: Khabibulin
LA: Quick
Minnesota: Harding
Nashville: Rinne
NYI: Nabakov
Pittsburgh: Vokoun

Considering the players that have cleared this season--I will be shocked if he does

I agree that's more likely, but maybe the Canes being down 2 tenders want a "veteran guy"

The problem is those teams don't appear to have really bad management like the Oilers. I highly doubt any team takes him but that would be great if one did!

Wasn't just the fact he was bad. It was the way he was bad off ice too. I say he clears waivers.

He isn't a bad buy he just needs an attitude adjustment.

For sure. There are lots of goalie injuries now., so if ever there were a time, it would be now.

He didn't sign Perron.

I don't think I've seen one person ever claimed he "signed Perron"...

MacTavish made a ton of moves that a lot of us like(d) at some point or another, including this one. It just didn't work out. Everyone, for the most part, was even on board when Acton and Hamilton were signed because we wanted to see if Eakins had an influence on players he was coaching out in Toronto and if they could translate their success with him into the Oilers system.

It's a sign that he is more competent than his predecessors in that he knew Labarbra wasn't working out and removed him immediately, where as Tambo would have rode him out for the entire year, preaching patience and that he will turn it around.

Only move that MacTavish made that most people weren't on board with was the Smid trade, but it's starting to grow on me. Broissot is the huge wild card in who wins this trade in a couple of years.
