What would happen if the Sabres produced a 3rd jersey that was never game worn? What rules would they be breaking?
Other than the economic ones...?
(Of course the biggest loss would be us all because we'd lose the opportunity to have an endless viral HF thread discussion about them lasting for days weeks, months and even years. All part of Ted's most clever plan!!)
What's the rule on new uniforms being abandoned? IIRC the previous third jerseys were supposed to be just a 40th anniversary thing but they were kept on another year because the NHL rule required them to keep it for two years.
This third is already universally hated, the Sabres will be mocked for wearing them and I can't imagine they sell very well. Why not just trash this jersey altogether and come up with something new. Ted Black mentioned the Mavericks using a fan submit/vote for their 3rd jersey as a good idea they wish they thought of. Even some tweaks to the new 3rd (like what Taro Tsujimoto posted) would be great - the mainly gold jersey isn't necessarily the worst idea. Maybe with LaFontaine back, start wearing the original home whites for some games.
I guess it seems like it, I'm not all that upset about it because it's a third jersey, but it's something that can be done well (and was done well with the previous 3rd) so it's annoying they'll look ridiculous for the nine or so games, but I'll have a good laugh about it.
