Reasonable trade if Gardiner can take the next step and fits in better in Philly than he does in Toronto. Just doesn't seem to be a Randy Carlyle kind of player.

B. Schenn has a lot of the offense on a team with little. His value is high right now.

Really bad, Leafs would have to offer more than just Gardiner.
Actually Kypreos said either Gardiner or Franson.

I hate Leaf-Flyer connections because everyone on that team is apparently worth more than gold. My God every rumoured player will either never be traded or be traded for X player + inifinity and yet the are constantly being dealt for underwhelming packages... At this point its ridiculous to say that the value isnt close, despite necessity or whatever

Makes no sense for the Flyers. Gardiner is so overrated.

Schenn is currently more impactful and his potential is higher, not sure why'd it would be a one for one swap. Not sure it makes sense at all for either team.

The reasons this deal doesn't make sense for Philly are the reasons it does make sense for Toronto.

Well, maybe their convinced that Couturier and Laughton can step up soon to replace Schenn. Or perhaps the Flyers management is eying a center to draft in 2014.

Either way, if this swap happened 1 on 1, leafs nation would be parading down the streets.

Im looking, not much proof though. Some preconceived stereotype does not accurately reflect the fan base.

*Ahem* Leafs will never get JVR for Schenn unless they add substantially *Ahem*

I guess, slightly. I just thought Toronto was looking for more help up the middle, and Brayden has played LW in the Philly games I've seen this year.

Full disclosure: I dislike both teams.

My judgement: Bad for Flyers. JVR and Schenn would torch them for years while they'd end up with a pair of borderline defencemen. One who makes tons of mistakes and adds a few assists. The other who makes tons of mistakes and fights to a draw every few months.

We get values wrong around here all the time, it doesn't mean any and all proposals are immune to criticism.

How old is he? how many NHL games? it's as if people don't comprehend that young players make mistakes. This is the same Gardiner who was the Leafs best player in the playoffs last year. He could be an outstanding player.

Could be. But I'm going to wager he's not nearly as good as some Leaf fans seem to think he is.

And he's not a total kid anymore. He was a 2008 draft. The high-end guys from that draft are already contributing plenty. I see a smooth skating, soft-ish defender with decent, but not great offensive skills and some questionable sense in his own end.

You'd be extrapolating a lot to assume he's going to be great in this league. Brayden Schenn is a much safer bet.

Schenn is worth more based on? what exactly? draft position?

He's 23. Well, guess his career is over.

Did I say that?

Obviously he should improve some still. I'm extrapolating based on what I see to this point just like you're extrapolating based on what you see.

Kypreos is being dragged through the mud unjuestly here.

What he ACTUALLY said was that the Leafs still need a 1C or top pairing D-man, and when asked to clarify "who is available that is better than Kadri/Bozak" stated B. Schenn.

He suggested Gardiner as a piece that would be involved to acquire Schenn, and never suggested that it would be a Gards/Schenn swap or that this was in anyway based on anything he'd heard or seen.

It was all just speculation on what player might be able to fill a long-term hole on Toronto's roster at 1C if Leafs don't see Bozak and Kadri holding it down.

he's only 22 and on pace to score 25+ goals and 50+ points currently. very good numbers for a 2nd line LW. what has Gardiner ever done? aside from setting the record for being in every single trade proposal Leaf fans make on this board? at least Schenn has shown signs of breaking out and living up to his potential. Gardiner has been underachieving and hasn't done much of anything yet. yeah he's young, but he ain't worth what Schenn is doing now.
