Oh come on.

This isn't about stepping it up, heart, confidence or the like. It's about skill, plain and simple, and most of our current iced players just don't have it.

The majority of our guys playing in our bottom six wouldn't even make the roster on most teams. I mean, there is a reason why everyone we waive clears. It's because they stink! Nobody wants them!

Heart doesn't get you far when the people who have it can't play hockey.

If people are going to give Smith (24 years old with 60 games experience) all these free passes because he's an "offensive dynamo," where's the love for the quiet, stay-at-home, knock-you-on-your-ass-in-the-crease guys?
He can. But not all potential is created equal.

Lashoff is no slouch, but Ouellet has a much better pedigree.

Captain of his Junior team. 2nd round pick. Cracked an absolutely stacked Canada team at the WJC, even over Sproul.

Now Lashoff did go to the WJC for Team USA as well, but he also went undrafted. And was a bit of a journeyman.

So if I had to bet on who has the better chance of 'breaking out', I'm going to go with XO. I'm not knocking Lashoff though, again, I think he has played well so far this year. No complaints at all so far. But we could really use one of those guys to come in and grab his piece of pie, and I think XO could do it.

Ideally Quincey gets benched, and we roll with both XO and Lash. But they would have to swallow their pride for that, and I doubt it happens.

You guys are right. I'm so silly. This was truly an all-out effort tonight. They battled so hard. So.... hard.... Every single player left it all out there. So much heart. Such an iron will.

Yeah.... no.

Yeah.... no.
Yeah, because we all know guys like Sammy, Cleary, Andersson, Bert, and Miller would normally be lighting it up if it wasn't for a lack of heart.

Maybe we should ring up the Care Bears.

lol this team

With my work schedule I haven't been able to pay much attention to them lately, so this is the first game that I've gotten to really sit down and watch in its entirety in about a month... and man, what a waste of my night. Props to Alfredsson on destroying his legacy by coming to this team; if you're gonna use that "go for it" excuse, at least make it worth your while and go to someone that actually has a chance.

But whatever man, these guys are so not worth losing sleep over anymore. This team is what it is; middle of the pack, frankly mediocre, but they'll still make the playoffs because their conference is garbage and it's pretty hard to be worse than the likes of Carolina, Columbus, etc. So... there's that at least.

It's interesting, tonight they looked like they were playing hard and working as hard as they could to get a win. The problem was that whatever they were doing just wasn't having any effect... Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Bertuzzi = fantastic line at puck possession in the offensive zone, but they just couldn't get it in the net and Nashville seemed to be pushing them to the perimeter quite often. The other lines were obviously up and down, but it was definitely not a game where you thought they weren't going to score at all until it was actually 0-2... at least, that's how I felt. Quincey even looked pretty good, and I was surprised at just how physical he played tonight. I never thought he was a physical player really. Overall, this team just isn't as good as the fans expect them to be, and that's a problem to pin on the management and coaching. Cleary's 4 minute penalty was inexcusable at that time. Had it happened in the first period, maybe it's a bit less costly, but that's 4 minutes of penalty time when you're already down by two goals and a Detroit team that has very limited goal scoring ability.

I also don't understand Tatar. I have been pulling for him for the past 3 years to get a shot, but now that he has his shot, I'd like to see him actually make good on all of the opportunities he gets. Dude needs to put the puck in the net. He's getting pretty decent chances on a nightly basis it seems. I mean, he's a rookie and he is just 22 years old, so obviously he's not a superstar, but man, he's had so many great opportunities and has just 2 goals. 7 games without a goal for him. Pretty sure the last game Detroit won was the last game he scored.

I'm glad someone else mentioned just how mediocre Andersson is. Put Andersson on your 4th line and allow him to PK a ton. That's what Andersson is... a 4th line forward with limited offensive upside and a pretty decent defensive game. He's not even playing particularly well this season, he's honestly probably part of the problem so far. He's young and not Lashoff, so he kind of escapes criticism often, but man, he just really isn't anything special. That bottom 6 could be replaced next season with a ton of Griffins call ups, and the team probably wouldn't be a whole heck of a lot worse as a result of it.

I really think there's going to have to be changes happening soon if this team doesn't start winning games. Alfredsson and Weiss may come back and be enough to jump start the team, but if they aren't, I think Holland really does some unthinkable things and surprises someone.

Feww, tough times right now huh. I guess it time to accept that Detroit is pretty mediocre. We're going to get better draft picks comming years at least.

Holland has failed? It's Babcock's fault to make up lines of players who do not belong in NHL.
One-line scoring will only get you so far.

Frustrating game. BOth goals pure luck. Why cant the shots the wings took go in instead of hit a body or stick. I also hate the clutch and grab style that trashville plays.
Finally get Sammy, anderdon, and cleary off bring up jarco, nyquist and play one line shorthanded instead of cleary.

So 2 guys that signed for a million dollars around the time Cleary did

Mason Raymond -21gp 8-8-16 +4 18:39

Brad Boyes - 21gp 8-2-10 +1 15:00

But we needed to go out and add "depth and leadership" in the form of cleary. Most teams would have their younger guys come up like Sheahan and Ferraro but not us

Isn't Boyes a right-handed shot as well? Doesn't matter at this point. It's pretty well established that Ken Holland has done a poor job the past couple years. Doesn't help that the coach is terrible either.

Joking or not, that's not what is going on. The best players on the team don't play awesome and the mediocre players play worse to get a coach fired. This is just a bad team.
