Now that COULD change. But as of now Cleary is set to go with Datsyuk. <<<Typing that is not fun btw.
Other than one set of practice lines, where are you getting the idea that it is the "tentative plan"?

Ansar Khan ‏@AnsarKhanMLive 27s
Babcock confirms Nyquist will play with Zetterberg and Franzen. Datsyuk will play with Bertuzzi and Cleary.

Ansar Khan ‏@AnsarKhanMLive 55s
Orher lines are Helm with Tatar and Abdelkader; Andersson with Miller and Samuelsson.

Ansar Khan ‏@AnsarKhanMLive 51s
Nyquist will play on the power play, too.

Ansar Khan ‏@AnsarKhanMLive 53s
The defense pairs are Kronwall-Ericsson, Quincey-Smith, Lashoff-Kindl. Howard starting in goal.

Like the Z line, I think the Helm line can work, Datsyuk is on his own, and the Andersson line has three players on it.

Horrible. Cleary needs to be waived or Babcock needs to be fired.

Yeah this is brutal. I've seen coaches who aren't this biased with playing their own sons. Babcock can't have Cleary on his team, or he's going to continue to use him appropriately.

On the positive side, Nyquist in top 6 with Zetterberg and on a PP unit. Score!

Haven't they been lackluster so far though? Their stats sure don't seem great.

Aside from Cleary, those are some of the best lines we've seen this year. Just replace Cleary with Alfredsson going forward and that would be pretty nice.

It's good to see Babcock giving Nyquist an opportunity to show his stuff right away, too. There's no Tatar-style earning his way up the roster.

They have. And it won't be the Staal-Semin line. Semin is out indefinitely with a concussion.

eric staal usually doesn't start to play until after december or january. offseason still going on. that's why he was so good last season.. weird as this is olympic year.

semin has been pretty good from what i've seen. was out for a concussion a while ago, not sure if he's back.

yes they have thats why i picked them(not knowing about semins injury) as that would prevent datsyuk having to chase the puck all night

and with Alfredsson and Weiss still out, there's going to be a couple of lines that just don't look that hot with the guys we have available. I've been toying with lines on capgeek for a bit here, and while there are some I'd personally prefer, I haven't hit on a four line combination that I really like as a whole. would love to see Nyquist and Tatar stay in the lineup after Alfredsson and Weiss are back. We could have a top9 that almost looks like an actual NHL team.

here is an NHL lineup

zetts-datsyuk-bert
nyquist-weiss-alffie
franzen-helm-tatar
tootoo-andersson-abdelkader
miller

kronwall-dekeyser
ericsson-smith
kindl-lashoff
quincey

howard
gustafsson(sp)

three scoring lines and a fourth line who are told to hit everything that moves and create energy(toots and abdelkader at least) and defence pairings that allow Smith to use his skil set properly knowing a stay at home dmen has his back

Nyquist-Zetterberg-Franzen
Bertuzzi-Datsyuk-Cleary
Tatar-Helm-Abdelkader
Miller-Andersson-Samuelsson

Kronwall-Ericsson
Quincey-Smith
Lashoff-Kindl

Howard

Looks good, except that 2nd line, poor Datsyuk

Put Tatar on the 2nd line.

Cleary-Helm-Gator = grind line = 3rd line. Babcock is so damn stupid. What about Dan Cleary screams scoring line?

What has Cleary done to be promoted to the first line? FML.

that's pretty much the lineup I was envisioning. I've really liked the Helm-Franzen connection. I don't think it's a coincidence that Franzen turned it on when Helm was next to him running through walls.

Now if only we get to see it this year...

Just because Datsyuk is on it doesn't make it the first line, clearly tonight Hank's line is the first line in terms of how we classically think of that.

The only thing that makes sense is that Babcock is looking for some scoring balance from 3 lines. Cleary - Helm- Abdelkader does nothing, so it's a useless line. But Tatar there makes it something. However, Cleary kills any line he's on, so I'm not advocating for him on any line, just trying to rationalize the decision.

It's hard to argue with this. I'm not really a fan of Bertuzzi with Datsyuk and Zetterberg but he's still better than Cleary or Abdelkader. I think Alfredsson is best suited with those two cause of his hockey sense and scoring touch.

I would have kept Tootoo over Cleary. I know he doesn't kill penalties but he sure brings way more energy. You could also have a 4th line of Abdelkader - Helm - Tootoo (speed and physicality) and then have a 3rd line of Tatar - Andersson - Nyquist.

Holland and Babcock have lost their minds and I hope they get their wits back before it's too late.
