Why have Miller up if he's just gonna sit? Doesn't make sense. I really think a trade is in the works.

Boyle means too much to this team's defense. He plays a great PK game. He plays tough, rugged. Does he win fights? No. But he sticks up for his teammates. He is average on the faceoff dot, but gets the job done. Having him pushed back to the 4th line is what he has always needed, so that he is not beaten down to death by the critics here. He is the perfect 3rd/4th line tweener. He plays on the 4th line and gives an honest effort every night. Teams need players like him.

I'd be ok with moving Miller for the right deal. I don't think that is why he is still up though. He could be traded while being in Hartford. They are on the road. They probably have him with the team in case of injury or if Nash needs a night off.

so you would keep Boyle with the risk of getting nothing for him if he walks as an UFA??? Boyle might resign here but as a first time as an UFA who knows. it would be best for Rangers management to get value for him in a trade, instead of letting him walk for 0 like other past UFA.. Sharks were in a win mode and traded Clowe and Murray, why cant Rangers management be smart like the Sharks management is

Are you going to trade Lundqvist, Callahan and Girardi too, or just Boyle?

But who knows what the trade market will be like? I think there will be more high profile names being tossed around this year. There are a lot of expiring contracts. That was the biggest issue with the cba negotiations. The amount of expiring contracts. Boyle's value might not be that high. I don't see him getting a return like Clowe did. Clowe has put up way, way, way more points in his career than Boyle. And even then I still think we overpaid given his declining play, wrong side of 30, and injuries. Boyle may get you a 3rd or 4th round pick. I'd rather have him solidify our 4th line, be an extra center who at times is good on the faceoff dot, and be a key cog to our PK.

This board is quite amazing. We have posters who bash Boyle to no end, but then people think we can trade him and get a quality return for him...

Lundqvist will be signed and if he isnt, im sure Sather can get something for him if he is not fired first for no resigning him..

on Callahan id like to resign him but not at a long contract, 4 years at most. he is the type of player that tends to break down with age by his style of play.

on Girardi, id trade him if not signed at the deadline... why let a player walk as an UFA, get 0 for him with a few extra months in the playoffs

Sharks let Clowe and Murray walk and look what happened, they improved.. out of the UFA, id keep Lundqvist and Callahan (based on how many years) on Girardi and the rest of the UFA, id try to acquire as many assets back for these UFA instead of getting 0 for them... i guess fans would be happy if Girardi stayed on the Rangers, and they lost in eastern conference finals and then Girardi signs with another team in July....

Entering action tonight the Rangers are 7th in shots and 27th in goals. If anyone's ever seen a bigger discrepancy, please let me know.

Because the Stanley Cup is awarded at the end of the playoffs, mostly.

You can;t manage that way. Hypothetical. If this team jumps up in the standings in the East into the top 3, you want to trade Girardi anyway even though they could be a playoff threat? Sometimes you don't always maximize your assets. Sometimes you keep a UFA to be to make a deep playoff run. At the end of the day, that is what every team is here for. To win the stanley cup.

i admit i do bash the guy but at the same time he is an good defensive forward... it just stinks that for a big guy he doesnt have the mean streak as Lucic.. having said that if they can get the right deal for him since he will be an UFA, they should do it... no sense of keeping a player that might walk. if you some team offers a young player like Morin or Hartman for Boyle you should do it.. the management thinking should not be this well im not gonna make the deal because i need to find a replacement for Boyle and as of now he will be more useful in the playoffs... just because Rangers are in a win mode does not mean that should not get anything for their UFA to be...

i understand that but look at what the Sharks did.. it didnt hurt them much.. in fact they became quicker, faster and younger because of it.. trading Handzus, Clowe, Murray helped.. Rangers should follow the same formula... get as much assets that you can for expiring contracts...

Refer to my last post about maximizing assets.

Secondly, why do you bother referencing Lucic? How many players in the league are like Lucic? I'll tell you, not many. Maybe only able to count on one hand the players that are similar to Lucic. He is a force. So it is absolutely unfair to compare Brian Boyle to Milan Lucic.

You throw out these names as if a team would offer a Morin or Hartman for Boyle. They won't. Look at what Clowe got. Draft picks. Look at what Douglas Murray got, draft picks. Gaustad two years ago, draft pick. You don't see prospects dealt too often. All 3 of those players have more value than Brian Boyle.

We are better off keeping Boyle and having him for a playoff run. There is a benefit. Cap space when you let him go. Or he goes out and his a huge part of the success and you re-sign him if feasible.

But they didn't get those fast, quick players from those trades. They got draft selections. They already had those players in there system. They just opened up spots on their roster. Not to mention they acquired, Hannan and Torres last year. They didn't just bring up young, inexperienced players for the playoffs. They were able to replace those guys. Who do we have to replace what Boyle brings? Miller and his boneheaded defensive plays because he is still learning? Kristo who is not a two-way hockey player? Lindberg who is not ready? Fast who is smallish and not ready? Boyle is not that simple to replace.

I don't think it's just as simple as trading UFAs and profit.

San Jose identified that Clowe was overvalued and replaced him with an undervalued player of similar value in Torres, for a fraction of the price. They somehow got two 2nds for a marginal NHL player in Murray.

I love Dallas' forward core. Mega jelly.

Hopefully the Rangers can keep up the fury from Boston but actually score.

And after 3 years of lurking, I have come out of the figurative shadow!

Whats up fellow Ranger's fans. I've finally decided its time to start voicing my opinion (whether you guys like it or not ) on this board. I've been following hockey for about 5 years now, which may not seem like much to you seasoned veterans, but I can honestly say that I've missed *maybe* 15 games in that timespan, and I'd like to think that I've learned a lot about hockey, the Rangers, and Glen Sather's tendencies over the past half-decade.

I even tried learning how to skate so that I can start playing with a few friends of mine down at the local rink...but I fell and broke my fibula and pretty much blew up my ankle

So here I am, a vulnerable new rookie poster, sitting on his chair with his leg in a cast, all because of my undying love for the game of hockey and my terrible balance.

All in all, I hope to contribute valuable opinions and whatever little observations I can
share with you guys.

Prediction for the game: we get out of this scoring funk with a solid 4-2 win.

Hagelin
Stralman
Nash
and Cally with the EN.

Sucks to your asthmar, but welcome aboard nevertheless!

Just don't show any emotions, especially after losses and you'll fit right in.

I like to think I'm on the cautiously optimistic side. But I'll admit, after those first few games of the season, I was ready to tear it all down. Sather's house included.

Thankfully, despite the past few games of not being able to finish the grade A chances they've been getting, they're playing well enough to inspire some of that cautious optimism back.
