Nino Niederreiter to MTL

What is El Niño's value, what would Minnesota want in return?

We just traded for him this off-season, he's going nowhere.

Very young, big, offensively talented, hard worker, cheap... not available unless there is a crazy overpayment i.e. young #2 D man.

I know he didn't do much for NYI, but we like him a lot here in MN, and are counting on him, Granlund, and Coyle to be our "young guns" up front.

We'd want Nino Niederreiter in return.

Clutterbuck?

Terrible trade for the Islanders.

Scenario isn't realistic. He's having a solid year and the Wild just traded for Nino with hopes of him playing the way he is now.

He's been the player he was projected to be when he was drafted. It took him a while, but he has been lights out almost every night. He is as untouchable as Granlund.

Well Subban is obviously out of the question. The Wild have a lot of skilled, smallish players both on their team and in their system(Parise, Pominville, Granlund, Spurgeon, Zucker, Haula) making them vulnerable to a bigger, tougher team. A larger, tougher player like Nino is just what the Wild need. Probably just what Montreal needs, too, making them a poor trade partner.

It remains to be seen how good Nino will be, but at present he is a #6 forward with a bullet. You don't give those guys away.

Minny fleeced the Islanders for Nino and they are going to keep him.

everybody talks about Granlund and Pom being the big players on our second line, but right now Nino is tied for 5th on the wild with 4 - 8 (12) and is a +6

even for a solid #3-4 defenseman (which is what we would be asking for) we don't have any reason to WANT to move him

With the way Nino has played all season and the fact the Wild just traded for him, he's just about the last player we need to be trading away and won't be going anywhere for a long time unless someone was willing to offer a big overpayment and since no one would be willing to do so, then /thread

Very interesting topic. As a Wild fan who has been thrilled with Nino's production, I found myself pondering whether or not the team may consider flipping him later this year when his value could be at an all-time high. Not sure trading a young guy so soon after acquiring him would send the best message as an organization so I agree that he's unlikely to be moved. Plus the idea of Minnesota having a pair of big, skilled forwards in Nino and Chahhlie Coyle (one lefty, one righty to boot) is probably too exciting for the front office to pass up.

That said, I think a game-breaker like Subban could possibly pry Nino out of Minnesota's hands. Maybe Nino and Mathew Dumba for PK to get the conversation started? Then the Wild could theoretically replenish their top six by scooping Vanek in free agency. Video game pipe dreams are so fun sometimes.

I like Nino and love the trade with NYI, mostly because I was the only Minnesotan who couldn't stand Clutterbucks overrated game and wanted the Wild to draft Nino. Love how it ended getting Granlund and Nino for Clutter and a 3rd. dirt cheap

that said, I wouldn't say Nino is not moveable but it would have to be the perfect storm to pry him away seeing as how well he has played, the void that would be there if he left (obviously assuming they wouldn't be trading for a forward), the salary / contract and promise he has as a future power forward.

If MN was going to move Nino, it would have to be for a skilled defenseman or goalie if Harding goes down. (pending Backstrom isn't back by then).

realistically, I don't think Montreal and MN would be good trade partners unless they would be willing to overpay and that wouldn't make much sense from Montreal's viewpoint.

to the post above me... want nothing to do with Vanek. His contact is going to be higher than the Wild should even consider spending.

Are you guys crazy

IF, and like you said unrealistically, if there was deal for Nino to Mtl, value wise it would be closer to around maybe a deal Gorges.

While I completely agree that it's nothing short of crazy for any fellow Wild fan to even think of Subban for Nino, it's also pretty crazy for you to suggest that Nino who after a change of scenery after being misused in NY and still only 21 and a 5th overall draft pick and now starting to live up to his potential is only worth MAYBE Gorges, a 29 year old defencemen with no offense. No, IF there's a deal to be made with Nino to MTL for a defencemen, it'll start with Beaulieu.
