Yup, it's not like him alone will save the team.

I hope he stays in hartford. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he recovered and the kid has heart, no doubt. I just don't think he has NHL talent. I wish we could put his heart into some of the more talented people on this team.

He's a serviceable fourth-liner. Unless we can all of the sudden field a team with four scoring lines that contribute, we need a solid fourth. If Ortsy can make it back and challenge for a spot on the line, I think he deserves it.

Get off Renney's back. A six game losing streak and everyone is ready to jump off the Empire State Building - Calm down

Ummm actually this board has been on Renney's back all year, and most of last season. I don't know how much you lurk on this board, but we are SOOO calm right now. If you want to see us go crazy, look at the GDT next time we blow a 3-0 lead in the third.

I was hoping...

they would do this. I was asking how much sense it made for him to try to get ready through just practicing - I didn't think that was enough.

As for Renney - that's been a subject long before the recent slide.

Then how does he have enough Talent? The only thing he doesnt have is offensive skill.

Great defensive player, great hitter, great blocker, great forechecker, great team guy, and plays with the most heart out of anyone. He is the perfect 4th line player.

If you didn't mean offense when you said talent...then what did you mean that he doesn't have that makes him not an NHL caliber player?

great hitter? maybe as compared to Poti, but not a great hitter. He will check and Lord knows he'll give 110% into every check but I would NOT classify him as a great hitter. There is not 1 player that is skating around thinking "Where is Ortmeyer" as they would a "great hitter". Yes, he is good defensively and no doubt that he is a great shot blocker. I pretty much agree with your assessment only that you think he is worthy of a 4th line spot and I don't.

I think he lacks in speed, stick handling, passing, and shooting... all basic hockey skills. Hockey-wise I think he's a 4th line scrub at best and most of those guys are interchangeable on any given night. Like I previously said, he has great heart and I love that I just don't think he belongs on an NHL roster. I know he's popular and most won't agree with me, but thats my opinion.

If so, why has he been in 136 NHL games?

Wow...

if Orts had anything Ithought it was speed, hockey sense and an ability to check well.

Good, not great defensive player. Average, not great hitter. Great isn't even on the radar screen of reality. Great shot blocker. Good, not great forechecker.

speed? I disagree
Hockey Sense? I agree, definitely.
Ability to check? I agree, though I refuted someones description of him as a "Great Hitter"

Malik is closing in on 600 games. He will surely have his own wing in the HOF.

With time maybe he'll be able to get into game shape and contribute with his shotblocking ability on the pk, and his 110% effort may rub off on some of the slugs playing lately

If you think this, you have no idea what your talking about. Ortmeyer has works harder than 99% of the New York Rangers. Being in the nhl isnt all about talent. Its also about working hard. Orts is one of the best pk killers in the nhl, hits, and backchecks his *** of every game. do you see jagr doing that?

Name 10 fourth line players in the league who have the "NHL talent" you are talking about.
I wonder how many of them have the heart Ortmeyer does. or the PK ability or awareness on the ice.
