Calgary wants freedom to assign him to minors and call up when needed. Can't do that with waiver claims.

That explains that.

I think Feaster might have had the deal in place for our 6th, but didn't not pull the trigger until he was able to replace it.........n/m my first guess was right

You could just put someone like Baertschi in the minors overnight (Like Edmonton did with Arcobello last week) until you were able to pull off the Jackman deal.

This is the second time in the last half-year that the Flames have traded a pick for a player who was just on waivers (Flames acquired Kris Russell for a 5th three days after he'd been on waivers).

I don't know how anyone can think this is a bad trade for the Flames?

Jackman for Lane MacDermid = small win for the Flames .

So the burning question is... which 6th round pick?! (Calgary's or Anaheim's)

Oh noez the Flames are terrible because they traded for a guy on waivers! Oh noez!

Seriously, is hating on the Flames just second nature now? I'm sure Burke and Feaster know what they're doing more than a bunch of armchair posters on this board.

Feaster explained trading for Russell as they didn't want to go to arbitration. And they wanted MacDermid because he had cleared waivers to go to the AHL. Seems like they wanted a backup in case McGrattan goes down but want to give someone (looks like Jones) a shot from the Heat.

Feaster has a track record of being a bonehead, has nothing to do with hating on the flames.

No he doesn't since coming to Calgary he has one move that looked like it could have been a bad move.

Well all his moves have to be approved by Burke from now on so I guess Burke's a bonehead too.

I don't particularly care for this trade. It is what it is. If we gave up the Ducks pick vs our own, then great.

Guess Feaster wasn't worried about that contract-spot like previously assumed....

MacDermid is a good guy. Brings some toughness to your fourth line and is a good fighter. He can skate well and isn't a huge defensive liability.

For Calgary, this was Lane MacDermid for Tim Jackman...how is that bad? Yeah, he was on waivers, but so was Jokinen....so is Shero an idiot as well? Clear Jackmans roster spot/salary, then trade the same part he was moved for for someone the heads of the club covet more. Not a great move, but not terrible.

Only in fantasy hockey. Waivers in real hockey are based on standings.

So for those of us who want to actually talk about the players, how does MacDermid compare to Jackman? As a fan of a few teams who play Calgary often enough, I had come to view Jackman as an effective enough player for the opposition.

Wow, a Vancouver fan defending a Calgary trade. How far has Calgary fallen?

But seriously, this was it.

8 years younger, 20 pounds lighter, 1 inch taller Jackman who is paid less and probably plays defence a little better as well. He's been assigned to the farm team for now.
Burke is slowly building towards his vision of success with Calgary as he did with Toronto - a team that will be difficult to play against in all facets.

Interesting move. Must have been someone the flames wanted.

I've never seen the interest in MacDermid; he couldn't even produce in the CHL/AHL and hasn't been very good in the NHL aside from the occasional fight.

They're both 6ths, but it's honestly pretty hard to get inferior to Jackman these days. It's a plug for a plug, except one is 8(?) years younger. Also, maybe the Flames will let McGrats go free now that they have a younger enforcer (doubtful, but one can hope).

AHL move IMO and nothing more. A guy we can call up when we need extra toughness. Nothing to see here.
