Babock has a tattoo of Keep Calm and Cleary On

Lost 6 or 7 in a row?

Keep Calm and put Cleary on the 1st line with Datsyuk!

I say we write a simple, statistics-based statement as to why Dan Cleary should not be on the Detroit Red Wings and, as a group, copy and post that statement into every comments section of any article regarding the Wings, along with emailing directly to the Detroit Red Wings. At least make it known that many fans are tired of him being around, and statistically, there is no justification.

If the same precise message, one that is statistically and factually supported, is repeated over and over again in many forums, we'll start a movement (cue Alice's Restuarant.... maybe not since it's an old song and there's many young whippersnappers around these parts). If done in a precise way, that isn't fan rage ramblings, the message has a chance at alerting management, or at least the media, that there is a real frustration with the way this team is being managed.

What statistics shall we include in our message?

CORSI, points per 60, points per game, quality of linemates, the positive change in CORSI of former linemates and the negative change to CORSI for current linemates.

I will do it. I just want to see a response from Babs and Holland on why he is playing on the first line.. or even on this team.

Put Weiss on Cleary's spot when he comes back.

Mule - Zeta - Gus
Weiss - Dats - Bert
Akader - Helm - Tatar
Mills - Andy - Sammy

Doesn't look bad. Maybe Weiss finds his game easier as a winger.

I was thinking that too, I say give it a go, and then throw Alfie on the other side when he comes back.

That's exactly what I was thinking last night while watching the game. Bert has been okay but I'd prefer Alfie over him on Pavel's wing.

Having 3 strong forward lines would be awesome.

Weiss - Datsyuk - Alfredsson
Franzen - Zetterberg - Nyquist
Tatar - Helm - Abdelkader
Miller - Andersson - Samuelsson

It's too bad that Babcock will probably end up taking Tatar out so he can play Cleary or Bertuzzi.

You do realize that Bert is one of the leading scorers on the team, right?

Plays on the top line with Z+D and gets 1st line PP time. Gee, I wonder why..

I noticed something interesting about last night's game. The only people with LESS ice time than Cleary were: Samuelsson, Andersson, Miller. I think Babcock has finally woken up.

He only had 12:57 TOI. Source

Do we all forget that Cleary was benched for a game?

So? He should be benched a lot more often. 3 points. And isn't one of the assists and secondary assist on an ENG?

Who cares about being benched for one measly game? He was on the top line, got a decent amount of SH TOI, but still played the 4th least amount of minutes. I think it's a good sign.

Yes. Against the Flyers. The other one being on Helm's breakaway vs. EDM and I wouldn't even consider him touching it.

He benched him because he had 3 pts and playing terrible.

Since then he has no points, and playing progressively worse each game, and he gets promoted to the 1st line.

So big whoop. He was clearly just trying to pull a motivational ploy and it had no bearing on Clearys ice time or anything whatsoever. He hasn't played any better and it hasn't mattered.

.
And yet on the first line got the 4th least amount of minutes. Maybe Babcock is beginning to see the light.

Maybe this is Babcock's way of giving him a last chance to show what he can do before Weiss+Alfie return and a move has to be made? Someone's gotta go eventually.

If he's going to play the 4th least minutes them let him bring down Miller, Andersson and whoever. Don't roll him out there with Datsyuk and let him hinder that line.

It's the same reason he throws him out there in all empty net situations.

He needs to inflate his stats so he can try to justify keeping around and bringing back his favorite player.

He knows he can't do it under normal circumstances so he lets him play with datsyuk and gives him an empty net to see if that can give a false impression that he's worth a damn.

I'm more sad about the downward spiral of Dan Cleary than I am mad about his role. I used to like the guy, he used to bring real value to the team. He used to have clutch moments. He was gritty and effective and versatile and could provide some offensive punch like an actual top-6 winger at times. He was a glue guy, with empirical value and intangibles that made him a crowd favorite. "I can see clearly now, the rain is gone...."

What we have now makes me a panda. The rain has come back. The obstacles are apparently blurry.
