He's a decent skater not slow not fast. He is really good along the boards and in the corners. He has great finishing skills as exemplified playing with Staal and Semin last year and leading the team in goals.

Honesty, I see a Backlund for Gardiner swap. I just have a hunch.

We don't.

But that's not the grounds to just completely throw out his impressive season last year.

I'm trying to look at Buffalo's roster, currently in shambles by the way, and seeing where he'd fit good on the LW.
I'm thinking on Hodgeson's LW, but Moulson is there, and that's cooled off of late as you can tell.
Past Hodgson, I'm looking at either youngster, Luke Adam or Zemgus Girgensons. Adam I think at center could benefit greatly by having Tlusty as his LWer.

Since Vanek's departure, Moulson is doing ok, but that 2nd line LW position has been hell to fill it appears. I like shifting Ennis to RW.

We do have some PMD's, the blue line is in better shape than the forwards, at least for the rebuild. What would interest Carolina in the way of a Blue Liner from the Sabres, within reason of value?

I have that hunch too. But when everyone is healthy, Bozak, Kadri, Bolland, Holland, Backlund, McClemment, Smith, Smithson. Lots of quantity, if they trade for a centre it needs to be a top one.

I didn't realize how much Carolina has struggled to score this year. Ruutu with 3 points, $4.75M/year cap hit and his injury history is probably as close to an untradeable contract as there is.

Well if you want a second line LW Tlusty would be great but I'd think if Carolina traded with Buf they'd want them to take Ruutu's contract as well which may not be bad for them since it'll help them stay above the cap floor until his contract expires and Buffalo starts getting better.

Can he play on the right wing? (and how is he at finding a spot for a one time feed?)

That's fair. Although I noticed that even if you include that season Del Zotto has a better career PPG average as a defenseman. So I would think if Sather is interested the Canes would have to add.

I think this is a hunch that only Flames fans have. Gardiner has way more upside and Backlund is lucky if he'd slot in at #4 on the Leafs' center depth chart. The idea that Gardiner is available is based only on the premise that he could be packaged to return either an upgrade on D or C, not a 4C.

My thoughts exactly on Ruutu. I realize the injuries have hurt his game, but whenever Buf played the Cane's I always liked the way he played. Only this season + 2 for him, that fits the time line for the re-signings on some of this youth we have coming out of their ELC's.
Would be a good fit for sure to take on Ruutu, at least, very exceptable.

He hasn't played there really for the Canes. I think he was drafted as a C and has played LW since.

I'd say his ability to find open spots and score off feeds is his greatest asset. Go watch his goals from last year you'll see what I mean.

I don't dislike Lessio as a prospect at all, but he's not what we need since I don't see the top 6 upside you do, and there's nothing about that trade that says "worth it" from a Canes standpoint. Rundblad isn't expected to round out his game to be capable of holding down a top 4 slot of his own accord at this point like he once was, and with Murphy we'd be projecting Rundblad to have to be a protected #6/pp specialist heading forward, not a protected #4/pp specialist. Just not worth it for the Canes for a guy that's shown he can fit in the top 6 forwards.
Okay, so would Stone for Tlusty straight up do it then?

Right. I'm not sure what Dman JR would want from Buffalo though.

Nolan made the comment after the lose to philly that players that keep making those penalty mistakes may find themselves out of Buffalo.
Myers had 2 of those penalties. With Buffalo so stacked with D in the pipeline that we've actually had to shift some things around, it wouldn't surprise me if they were willing to move him, but the deal would have to be more than Tlusty and Ruutu. I would guess draft picks as well, probably that 1st rounder of the Canes this coming draft.

Myers is one hell of a PMD though, but it would be pricey to get him for sure. This type of deal intrigues me as a fan, could be a win/win for both clubs.

Really upset about how it has end up for Backlund. But he's never going to be successful here. Really sad. I hope he does well somewhere else.

Whoever picks up Backlund likely wins the trade. Guy will be good, getting no love from Hartley.

No doubt that JR wants a puck moving dman. But Carolina needed winger help BEFORE Semin went down.

No way Carolina trades both Tlusty and/or Ruutu without another winger or two coming back.

This makes me reminisce about the days of HF when Ruutu was the #1 prospect in the world. Good times.
