Duclair is a long shot right?

Why do you believe Duclair will be better?

Faster, better shot, more involved in the game than Buch. Unlike Buch, Duclair is physical, works hard to win battles, and gives quite a defensive effort. That's not saying Buch is lazy, but he'd definitely rather have the puck than backcheck.

I also believe playing in CHL leagues is just better developmentally than playing in Russia.

If all goes right for both players, they have similar ceilings of 65-70 points with game-breaking ability. While Buchnevich can flat-out dominate shifts, Duclair is a more complete player, in my opinion.

What does Buchnevich have on Duclair?

Edit: How does Buchnevich compare to Cherapanov?

Buchnevich's hockey IQ is MUCH better than Duclair's. His vision is incredible and he's capable of making some world class passes. He's also bigger than Duclair (6' 2" 176 IIRC). There's nothing he's bad at, really. He's a prototypical Russian Machine Never Break guy.

Cherepanov was a much more gifted player. Just flat out more talented than Buch. To make an NHL comparison, Cherepanov's ceiling was a better Alex Radulov. Buch's max upside is Alexander Semin.

Is Semin really worse than Radulov?

Yes, if Radulov ever gave a **** or played to his full potential in the NHL, he's a top 10 player, with high 90's in points. imo.

Semin has been a pretty consistent 70-80 point sniper, which is Buch's ceiling.

I seem to remember Cherapanov being more of guy that finishes around the net. I didn't think he had ultra-elite skills.

I'll take that kind of ceiling from a 1st rounder much less a 3rd rounder like Buch.

I'm not saying we definitely have a future superstar on our hands. But if everything breaks even (remember that KHL contract) we have a GREAT player. That upside is tremendous for a 3rd rounder.

Just felt like noting here, Duclair fell to the 3rd round for two reasons. One, his numbers went down his draft year (10/10 your stock significantly drops if your numbers stagnate, or go down) and the Adam Erne incident (9/10 your stock significantly drops if a player has attitude issues). If Duclair didn't get injured last year, coupled with low numbers, and "discipline issues" he's a top 10 pick.

I don't think he's that much of a long shot. I've never seen anyone deny his skill. His draft position was a function of him having an extremely mediocre sophomore season. If that proves to be an aberration, I think he's a really good prospect.

I can't speak for him but he might have meant for the WJC.

When he had an injury correct? And do you know why he was suspended?

It’s been an up and down season for Quebec’s Anthony Duclair. From an ankle injury early in the season, to getting suspended a few games by GM Patrick Roy, to being selected to the Top Prospects Game, to finishing the season 4th in scoring on the team, Duclair has been through adversity all season. - See more at: http://thehockeywriters.com/anthony-....ffDKZBHl.dpuf

I don't remember what it was for but him and Adam Erne were causing problems for the team and Roy didn't like it and scratched them a few games. That sent up red flags about his discipline.

Does anyone have any video to Buchnevich's two goals and assist today?

How is his discipline, was that a one off or does he have a rep?

Not exactly... the group of leaders in the club went to Roy and asked him to suspend Duclair and Erne, which he did, for a practice. Concerned players discussed, and it the suspension was lifted before a match was played. The team was going poorly all around, at that time.

How isn't Buchnevich physical? That breakaway right before a penalty shot and a play that set up the 4th goal were very physical. Considering it was a teenager vs grown men.

I don't know what it had to do with anything, frankly. I didn't even know why he was in trouble. Like someone else posted he wasn't suspended anyway.

I know next to nothing about this kid, other than the Rangers drafted him. But that was some promising looking stuff right there. Fair amount of poise for a young fella.

Duclair has worn an A for a few games this year. For what that's worth.

Duclair with an assist tonight.

Fogarty didn't play for Notre Dame. Anyone hear why?

Came here to post this. Not being physical enough was a mentioned re. Buch prior to the draft. However, I watched all Severstal highlights this season and his points often come from going to the net or winning board battles. Also his 10 points in 13 games is no coincidence - he EARNED a permanent spot on the 3rd line after being in and out of line up and seeing limited minutes early in this season. He looks much more comfortable these days and it should just continue to get better from here. Skillwise he's got good hands and he's a smooth skater. Very good hockey sense and poised when on a pack. He's going to be one of undisputed leaders for Team Russia in the upcoming WJC U-20. Not taking away anything from Duclair's accomplishments this season but you got to keep in mind that he's playing junior hockey while Buchnevich is in 2nd best MEN league in the world. Similarly, i dont see how playing in KHL could be a knock on his development. Fast and Lindberg developed just fine in Swedish league before this season. Buch is in the first year of two-year (two-way) contract.
