Hamhuis, Suter and Weber

In the long run I think Weber will be our best defenseman but Suter is really closing the gap, both right now are still trailing Hamhuis although not by much.

If I had to rank them overall on potential I don't think I could now, they're all three pretty much even. No way would I have said that last season.

i don't disagree, going to be some more trio here... add in franson, parent and klein over the next three years and it's going to be some more blueline.. as good a one potentially depthwise as i can ever remember.. going to be something to behold you would think... if i were a young goalie prospect i'd be praying to come to nashville

Young forwards are going to be thinking the same thing as well. Of the aforementioned group, only Parent appears to have a mediocre or worse breakout pass. Everyone else seems to be able to make that tape-to-tape pass to set up our offense.

What's with Hamhuis? I was expecting a lot from this guy. Wasn't he impressing lots last season? I did pick him up in the last round of my pool, but I guess Weber would have been a better pick.

Nothing is wrong with him, in fact he's our most reliable blueliner. He's gobbling up speedy forwards and locking them out, he's crushing people with the hipcheck, he's breaking up 2-1s. What do you mean what's wrong with him, he's been great this year.

The only thing that's wrong is the guys who picked Hamhuis in their hockey pools. With the loss of three of our most reliable defensive defensemen, it would stand to reason that one of our few remaining experienced, reliable Dmen would get shifted to a more defensive role.

I think his numbers will increase but I doubt he reaches last seasons level, we've just have too many options and we need him to play big minutes defensively.

I agree with pretty much everyone else...going to be a whale of a defense for our future...let's just hope we can afford to keep them all together for a few years.

This is slightly off subject and in no way do I think Zanon figures into this team's future, but I'm going to eat my crow and admit he played a great game against the wings last night. he is a pretty reliable #6-#7 d-man at this point.

You're still leaving out Laakso, Kulyash, and even Koistinen. Also we have Zidlicky locked up for a while too.

Boy, what a crop of young defensemen!

I'm thinking more and more than we need to move Zidlicky to make room for a steady veteran D. He certainly provides some great things, but he makes a ton of mistakes. I really am scared to have him in the playoffs.

Timonen
Veteran Dman
Weber
Hamhuis
Suter
Lethonen/Zanon

It'd be great if we could somehow land Reghr. We could dangle Hartell, Zidlicky, Klein, Vasichek, and see if they have any interest.

I'm not scared of Zidlicky in the playoffs. If you look at his international and olympic play, it actually indicates this is where he performs the best. Granted, this is on a bigger ice surface, but when the cards are on the table - Zidlicky always takes his game up to a new level. His defensive game isn't that bad, and last year most of his penalties and mistakes were made when covering for a struggling Ryan Suter. This year he has been pretty good, especially considering many times he is out there with Kimmo against the other teams no. 1 or 2 offensive unit.

Next year, I think we will see either Klein in the lineup, or he will be traded. Parent will be in Milwuakee, and he will likely take the Hamhuis path to the NHL - 1 year down, then up.

i agree. i think zidlicky has actually been better than ever before defensively..maybe even at the cost of some of his offense. i also can't see trading him after re-signing to a pretty sweet deal for the next few years. with what defensemen are going for, these days, Zidlicky at 3.5 is a bargain.

I've been watching him carefully of late. I think he has improved his positioning and he has taken fewer penalties. He has done some great stick work and his ability to undress the odd unwary d-man makes him a great part of this team.

I think a younger guy is more likely to be packaged if a move was made. Not that I am dying to do that just now. But what a great problem to have, as opposed to a few years ago with NO d prospects!!!

Theres no way you should break up your D.
you guys need a goal scorer and to keep TV healthy.
BUT,if you really want to get rid of Zidlicky,us B's fans would love to have him.

I just feel Zidlicky does something near every other game that leads to a goal. I agree, he does a lot of good things, and his positioning isn't all that bad, but if the package is right, I'd move him. He's got good value.

We need a goal scorer? We're near the top of the league in goals scored, we have that covered.

Hamhuis seems to be having a slightly off season. Not that he is doing bad, he has been good. Im just accustomed to him being super and we havent seen that as much this year.

Weber is just what we have needed.

Suter is logging a ton of ice time lately. It is also interesting that Trotz is showing trust in the Suter-Weber pairing with powerplay time on the points.

i think hamhuis has been better lately, now that he's back to a physical game.

he falls into that mark-eatonism every so often, and tries to be reactionary\play the puck\wait for the puck carrier to make the first move and try to intercept the pass...but most of the time he's good. Timonen has a similar problem.

You must be kidding? I've watched Shea since he was 17 years old and he always gives a hit when ever he can.

Over the holidays I watched the Gold Medal game at the World Juniors verses the Russians again, the Weber Phaneuf tandem was even more impressive watching it the second time verses the live version. The way Shea and Dion took Ovechkin out of the game was legendary.

I've seen Weber about 5 times this year on T.V. there is nothing wrong with the amount of hitting as a part of his game.

I think he was being facetious, as indicated by his grinning and winking emoticons.
