yes! CSKA just signed an agreement with Kuban and severed with THK, while sending Kamaev, Ogurtsov, and Pereskokov to Krasnodar. Kamaev took SEVERE steps back in his career and is a shadow of himself prior to leaving to CHL, I am hoping he will regain his confidence, but with 4th line time in Krasnodar - idk.
I saw Zykov in subway - series and him too is already meh...

Yes, Kuban is good this season (preparing for KHL?), what is good for CSKA´s prospects. Btw, does Bure work for Kuban already?

CHL

Yes true, but I am referring to 3 of the players from Loko MHL team alone who are not VHL/KHL guys. These guys all looked good. If there are 3 guys that good on one MHL team, plus Khlopotov who played a bit for them, that has got to be one hell of a junior team. Tkachev also qualifies as an MHL player. Rudenkov who was one of the best players on the ice has never played a single VHL/KHL game.

I am just impressed that they can play on par with the likes of proclaimed NHL ready Darnell Nurse, #1 overall candidate Ekblad etc.. 5 yrs ago the players that the Russians would send would get destroyed by the higher end players.. and it was a myth that Russia was sending secondary rosters (I am referring to the summer series if anyone recalls) The best Russian juniors were there and they got destroyed, outplayed 8 games horribly. Now, a B team of MHL/(some VHL) guys can skate toe to toe with the best on the other side of the pond... Speaks volumes of the level increase over the past 5 years of Russian junior hockey.

Yes Ozo it is only a hand full of games, but I am estimating that things can only get better as hockey slowly grows in popularity due to the KHL/MHL/VHL marketing efforts... Time will tell...

BTW the MHL teams looked good at the summer tourney in contrast to the OHL/USHL teams. 5 years ago I don't think this would have been the case. I remember watching some of the 1st MHL games, the level has most certainly increased now.

MHL teams have like a month long head start over CHL/USHL teams to practice. USHL team gathered at the stadium had a few practices and went on to play the tournament.

CHL
CHL is a great NHL-prep league with tremendous NHL to become talent, you can't take that away. But it's not a good develpomental league for everybody, especially for guys who are taught to think, invent, and create rather than play schemes. Also, I always thought, that CHL is a great league for Russian d-men to develop, but now I have my doubts, because Zadorov's play and timing was completely out of control (even though he was a beast).

Hello, I am currently living in Russia (from Canada) and I've recently watched an MHL-B game, HK Belgorod vs Raketa Sarov. I thought I'd share some photos.

Belgorod wins 4-2!

I was impressed with the level of play, more physical than I expected (even a fight), but I imagine there must be a big disparity in talent in this league.

Interesting report. Never expected the "impressed with level of play" bit and kinda feel sorry that you didn't relocate to some "MHL proper" city.

glad you enjoyed the game, I watch MHL-B sometimes here and there, the level is quite poor, but I'd think the best teams are Junior - A quality.

Poprad-based Polish HC Jackals Poland with a support of president of Polish hockey federation and Hockey World company might join the MHL next season. Estimated budget - 800k €. (sources: Russian, Polish)

Loss to Colgate 2-3
Loss to Merrimack 4-5 after shootout (even though Merrimack says the game was cancelled)
Loss to Cornell University 0-6

Do these games have a purpose? I mean - the guys on the university teams are older and all the best Russian juniors are either in the KHL or playing at the World Junior Champs.
There's no way the Red Stars can compete with the likes of Yale, etc...

embarrassment, haven't been able to go see any of the games this year, but last year, the players didn't really care, were getting blown out and laughing.

i don't think it's such a good idea: knowing how any team in the mhl is formed and knowing how the u18 is usually formed, I have my doubts this will be a good experiment. We are not a tiny hockey nations, where we need to keep u18 team together at all times, and clearly winning u18 wc or hlinka cup is nice, but not all that valuable...so my question is - why?

I agree, one of the worst ideas in hockey, take 6 top young forwards and bury them on the 3rd/4th line of a national team while they could be playing top line minutes on another club.

The americans do that, though

Central scouting rankings are out, one thing I noticed is the sheer size of the Russian players listed, out of many I could count with one hand the amount of players under 6 feet tall, many are huge. Is this simply a change in diet? The average Russian man isn't that tall from what I've seen and read. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=712857
