Sportsnet is a &^%$* mickey mouse operation. They have terrible announcers, terrible analysts & third world production values. A crap net. TSN really improved the production values. I don't understand this short sighted move that by moron commissioner.

As for TVA vs RDS. The difference isn't as big as Sportsnet & TSN but RDS is still a far superior network.

Man, what a terrible move from the fans' point of view.
No big deal. Sooner or later TSN hockey guys will end up at Sportsnet anyway.

because they were going to get nothing with tsn? maybe that's a good thing...sometimes tradition is hard to go without; although, the odd thursday game, playoff games, and hockey day in canada are my favourite days.

cbc puts on a show, but out of all of this...I hope with the new deal happening in ottawa, there will be a way for netflix to take on tv packages. that'll open the nhl door to a whole other opportunity of money making.

So will all 82 Habs games still be available on 1 station? And will that station be RDS?

That's probably not going to happen. TVA (not TVA Sports) would broadcast some games if that's an issue. I wouldn't be surprised if games on Saturday nights are on TVA next year. What brings in more ad money, a Habs hockey game or the umpteenth showing of Independence Day?

#RDS reportedly keeps 60 #Habs games; "a minimum" 22 to TVA, plus playoffs

This is huge, more hockey on Saturday is a huge plus.

Rogers will get more money, so within 2-3 years, you'll see many TSN guys on their stations

Darkest day in Habs history, for real.

Once Qc gets a team, we're going back to the 80's, when the Nords and Habs were competing to show games on TV.

Sad, sad day.

I doubt Mckenzie, Dreger, Duthie etc.. leave.

TSN still keeps World Junior's for example and they still have hockey shows every night which they will keep.

To give you an example Mckenzie already said he isn't leaving TSN, he said this isn't the first time TSN doesn't have national broadcasting rights (1998-2002).

This sucks because I eliminated TVA Sport and Sportsnet....now I may have to re-add them. That costs me more money for the same product.

The talent pool is so shallow, and now it will be spread out even thinner. More crappy french coverage (TVA's line up is simply horrible), and more Doug Mclean on SN...

booooooooooooooo!!!

TSN has been head's and shoulders above all hockey broadcasts....now....we get less of them, and more of amateur hour.

What the fack does "rights to at least 22 Montreal Canadiens games" mean? The 82 games will be split between different stations? This has to be a sick ****ing joke.

By the way, I got Sportsnet in the A La Carte package with Fibe to watch some baseball and junior hockey. The ****ers don't even include their ****ing HD channels.

Just my thoughts but this is a great deal for Habs fans outside Quebec who normally couldn't get Habs games.

This is awful for us living in Quebec due to the huge drop in quality of the broadcasts.

Just my 2 cents.

So when does this take effect?

We will get to see move games and I could see the Habs playing on like City TV like they do sometimes on Saturday but regularly.

Is this deal for 7 days a week or just select days.

If Renaud Lavoie can switch to Quebecor. I have no doubt that other's from RDS will switch too, eventually. Plus, with a new deal, I expect Quebecor to clean house and hire some competent people.

Broadcasting rights are split pretty much everywhere in the world, except when you hold an exclusive monopoly like RDS had.

What's the problem with split broadcaster? Man, some of you people are so reacting badly to any sort of change in your life.

Takes effect next season.

Rogers will own literally ALL rights in ALL media, they will operate the highlight packages shown by the NHL etc.. literally they will own EVERYTHING.

They have made a side deal with the CBC to sub license the HNIC Saturday games and will show a game that HNIC isn't showing on Saturday Nights.

They have also made a side deal with TVA for French Language Rights to a "minimum" of 22 Habs games and all the playoffs. Nobody is quite sure what the "minimum" means.

Also according to an article I just read, TSN wasn't even allowed to bid .. they were "shut out of the bidding" the article said.
