Well, this sort of change requires us to pay more for pretty much the same. I'd even say the quality on TVA Sports will be worse, so I do see it in a negative light.

you guys complain way too early...!
the quality of broadcasts? probably accounted for in the negociations, a certain standard will have to be met. you think that tva will not have more $ with ads so they will invest more...OF COURSE they didnt invest much in the SENS or LHJMQ, look at the ratings...
the announcers? langevin and pednault MIGHT or MIGHT NOT be there for habs games, who knows what will happen. maybe 90% of rds staff will move...

this is a move that will change the landscape and it is too early too tell if positive or negative. but hey, the bell/rds monopol was there too long.

I still don't get how TSN/CTV/Bell let this happen.

I think it's up to the network. They have rights to all the games. Maybe it'll be every night? I'm not 100% sure.

They have also made a side deal with TVA for French Language Rights to a "minimum" of 22 Habs games and all the playoffs. Nobody is quite sure what the "minimum" means.

Also according to an article I just read, TSN wasn't even allowed to bid .. they were "shut out of the bidding" the article said.
Could the fact that Rogers owns 37.5% of Maple Leafs Sports Entertainment have anything to do with that...

I can only speak of what I know from watching Habs games for 25+ years and the quality of Habs broadcasts and overall coverage changed dramatically for the better when it went to TSN/RDS, without getting into the overall hockey presentation by TSN, which is best in the world.

Sounds like our government, and those wanting to bid on our new fighter jets.

Now I want to know why tsn was told no.

When they say there will be no more blackout does that means that Habs game could be available on NHL Centre Ice ?

No. Twenty-two #Habs games reportedly to RDS, 60 to TVA RT

My mistake, apologies. 60 #Habs games to RDS; 22 plus playoffs to TVA.

This is just an escalation of the Quebecor-Bell fight over cable channels.

Quebecor created TVASports with the sole objective to beat out Bell (80% owner of RDS) for TV hockey market shares. Habs & Nordiques ownership backroom backstabbings & Bell channels cable bundles issues were the first shots fired. Now Quebecor won a significant victory.

Quebecor just basically increased it's reach across Bell subscribers by making TVASports a must have for Habs & NHL fans. That was at the core of the Quebecor-Bell dispute over Sun News channel.

It has to be noted though that it's the Habs' themselves that licensed Bell (ie. RDS) with entire coverage of the team *aside* from games. So the Habs won't get off RDS anytime soon.

One thing is sure: it'll be very weird to see Quebecor broadcast games on it's own channel... from the Bell Centre.

Made a mistake. It's the opposite.

60 to RDS and 22 + All playoff games to TVA

I think that matter is between Canadiens and who ever wants to get the rights to the show. It's a different matter.

Of course. 24CH is part of the Habs' exclusive coverage that the team licensed to Bell.

Seems super short sighted by the league.

One of the things that the NBA, NFL, and MLB have done right is making sure their sport is broadcast on as many TV networks as possible, thus upping the number of games available.

The NHL virtually HAD to shift the games to Versus/NBC sports coming out of the early 2000s, ESPN had nothing doing for the sport and it was a great move. I think it was a mistake to not give SOME games back to ESPN a few years ago when the chance was there, even if the money for exclusive rights from NBC was better. (in the states)

TSN has always given great coverage to the NHL. Turning your back on the network, even if the money was a lot better, is a dumb move. Both networks should have been given parts of the contract. More games would have been on TV and you would get more coverage from both networks respective highlight shows and websites.

Bad move by the NHL.

Plus it looks like RDS keeps 60 games.

Holy **** Rds will be going down fast. TVA sport is broadcasting every Olympics hockey games this year and then next year they will be broadcasting 1/4 of habs games and RDS will only broadcast 60 NHL games (habs) in the entire year?

I guess that's that for RDS, they will shut down the station in a few years.

Prochain dossier: les droits des 60 autres matchs du Canadien en français, diffusés en semaine. Dans le jargon, on parle de “droits locaux”. RDS tentera de sauver la mise

of course it increased, they paid GOOD money for the rights, then charged GOOD money for advertising, resulting in investment in quality.

So pissed off. Can't stand having those peasants from TVA to handle any Habs game. Any Impact fan knows how disastrous and incompetent they are. They're all about money money and money. Thank god RDS has 60, that means 22 games on the Radio/NHL Center Ice. Not that bad after all.

As for TSN, that's ridiculous. TSN was more that just presenting a sporting event, it was a show itself. It isn't so much that Sportsnet are incompetent, its more a question of TSN being irreplaceable.
