I think of it as my duty to the community, in that I'm trying to educate the uneducated.

But it usually goes like this:

Main Boarder: "Something incredibly stupid"

Me: "That doesn't make sense cause.."

MB: "Something incredibly stupid"

Me: "No, I don't think you understand, it's like..."

MB: "Something inflammatory"

Me: "You're a ****ing idiot"

Mod: "Infraction"

The main boards produced a Reimer for G trade proposal.

However, I just saw a Mez for Erat over here, so...

I do enjoy how everyone (including our fans) speak like they know what kind of package it would take to get a player, and act like their opinion is gospel.

I almost never do any trade type stuff unless its something ridiculous like prospect + pick for Giroux, then I'll say stop lol.

It annoys me...maybe too much ...that people do trade offers, and comment on them like they have any clue.

The absolute best though is when someone is like "Poster X and myself already agreed on what the value for Player Y was, the trade would be blah blah blah"

Oh yeah lol. Clearly you can tell if it's ridiculous, but the people that do the whole "our fanbase already agreed it would take blue chip prospect A and B plus 1st round pick for middle aged 3rd line center are awful.

I loved the Mez for Erat proposal on a couple levels. First, it's horrific for Washington. Second, it's also horrific for Erat since he'd be in the same position in the end.

I guess that makes me a mean person.

Joe Toronto. That is legendary. We have to turn that into something.

I think we all just need to understand that we overvalue our players/prospects as much as other teams do, and we undervalue opposing teams players/prospects as much as other teams do.

Now, some fan bases may do it more than others (TOR, MON), but we are all guilty of it around here.

I don't think I've ever seen the collective HF hive mind **** on someone as bad as Couturier. Maybe I just haven't been paying attention to others as much.

I can't remember more blind ignorance towards a player. Every measurable statistic proves his defensive abilities, and observing him proves the statistics are being used accurately; however, he doesn't score 50 points per season at 20 years old so he is a bust.

Maybe we should trade him. I mean, players that can shutdown Crosby/Malkin are a dime a dozen according to the main boards.

I hate to think about where this team would be without Couts.

I don't think that really applies in this scenario. Nearly every single defensive statistic you can think of shows he's one of the best defensive centers in the game. Saying he is is not overvaluing him, it's telling the truth.

Toronto fans think Gardiner can get them any player/prospect in the NHL

You'd think someone with that much value would be someone you wouldn't want to offer in every trade proposal

I hope Joe Toronto becomes a thing.

I remember when Chris and I thought JVR was worth Schenn+ (my preferred plus was Kadri-- which was overshooting a bit so the trade would be a steal) and Toronto fans were adamant that wasn't the case. Pointing out that JVR's ilk develops a bit slower-- nothing was working.

Then: JVR+ for Schenn or JVR for Schenn straight up.

"Would you do the trade in reverse?"

Now: Schenn++++++ for JVR

"Always hated L.Schenn. The bum."

Joe Toronto'd

There's like a new Steve Mason thread started on there every few days by a Flyers fan. It's just asking to be trolled at this point.

Haha, that is awesome... and a surprisingly good evaluation considering it is bleacher report.

Someone knows what they are doing! Though I would have been inclined to put Kulemin on there somewhere, maybe late the guy is insanely good, especially the last two years.

Tbf I think Couts may have been robbed of 1st place! ;p

Last three years he is the only guy in the NHL with more than 2 mins per 60 played and been top ten in CORSI on the PK each year. He has also been the only one top 15 in CORSI rel each of the three.

Corsi On:

2011: 7th (2.61 played, -65.37 Corsi on, 2.0 Corsi rel)
2012: 4th (2.37 played, -60.65 Corsi on, 11.2 Corsi rel)
2013: 2nd (2.96 played, -57.88 Corsi on, 27.4 Corsi rel)

Corsi rel:

2011: 11th 2012: 5th 2013: 2nd

Also his QoC on the PK is unparalleled in that time.

2011: 1st 2012: 11th 2013: 4th

So he has been top 15 in all three categories (QoC, both Corsis) for the last three years. While no-one else has done that in one category alone.

Also, before Talbot went to Colorado he had positive relative corsi on the PK I believe... it is now -12.8... indicating that maybe, just maybe, Couts was carrying him in Philly. (though in Pitt he has been ~5th best and 20th best in NHL PKing the two years before, he is damn good in his own right.)

I think it'll take a bit more offensive consistency or just more years of defensive excellence for fans outside Philadelphia to appreciate how good Coots has been defensively.

Rinaldos PK Corsi is awful... -128 On and -60 rel.

5th worst PK figures in the NHL for players with 40+ seconds a game. Out of 150. And his QoC is among the 25 easiest.

Rinaldo: 18.37 GA/On per 60 on PK.
Couts: 3.86
Read: 3.79
Giroux: 8.71
Hall: 9.95
Raffl: 7.45

Couts and Read have the same PK +/- as Rinaldo... -3, but they have played 70 and 67 mins on the PK... Rinaldo has played less than 12.

Rinaldo should not be on the PK. He has literally doubled the chance it will be scored on when he is out there. And only plays against 2nd units to boot.

The biggest thing is if they want him to be on there, he needs to learn. Have to take the lumps with it.

Yeh, I know that, but it would be far smarter to wait until the offseason, using him as a 5th or 6th forward this year to ease him in while not virtually giving up PK goals against.

I would really just like to see:

Couts-Read
Hall-Raffl
G
Rinaldo

G is a pretty damn good PKer tbh, despite what people may be saying this year. (while he is average to slightly above 5v5 he PKs very well.) But he should probably not be doing it full time/ more than 1-1.30 a game. (He is around that now after the last few games with Rinaldo.)

Pretty much. If the numbers still suck in 20 games, then you decide to make the move. It's tough because they really only have 3 quality penalty killing forwards (Hall, Couturier, Read). Outside of Rinaldo, there aren't a ton of choices outside of putting Giroux back on the pk team, which I'm sure they want nothing to do with.

Raffl has done it extensively for Austria and in Sweden, netted a few shorties last year as well.

But he has to be in the lineup to do it.
