Could the oilers afford Lang?

after this year, he has 2 years left at 5 mill per. According to rds.com, the caps are willing to pay 1 mill per of his salary.Could this work:

oates to ? for a low pick (salary dump)
smith to rangers for blackburn or tjuitin and a high pick (dump 2.3 mill this year and 4 mill next year, smith is in line for a huge arbitration award)
Laraque plus low pick to washington for Lang (dump 1.3 mill and pick up 4 mill)

Just the idea of Lang on the Oilers.... To quote Jay - "I think I just filled the cup"

if the caps are willing to pick up 1 mill, the Lang only costs 4 mill and that ain't bad for a guy who is leading the league in scoring. I would rather have Lang at 4 mill than smyth at 3.5 mill or Smith at 3.5 mill.

With the rising canadian dollar and the room Lowe has given himself ( I think he is 2.5 mill under budget), this could work.

I hate to get into great detail about who goes where but it sounds like a heckuva good idea to me to get Lang.

I would like to believe that the Oilers could do something like this, but in my heart I know they won't.

Lang an Oiler? No chance.

Other teams can take on his salary without dumping $$$ back on the Caps. We'd have to send some contracts to the Caps for it to work.

For not dumping any money on Caps other teams would offer less player wise. We can make them a very very nice offer centered around Rita and Horc and draft picks.
