Del Zotto definitely on the block, NYR would never trade them in the division probably. But the Flyers could use his skillset.

I'm going to say no but I'm not 100% certain, most teams wouldn't really allocate too much of a crazy salary to one player anyway.

I would love Del Zotto here. I think a change would do him good.

With all of this talk about the cap rising...look at these names for next year in the UFA market...think Holmgren doesn't know this?

Gaborik
Heatley
Vanek
Boyle
Phaneuf

Vanek is the only one that interests me.

I'd rather go for Vanek over all of them.

The Coyotes waived Rusty Klesla for some reason. I don't get it. If the Coyotes couldn't get anything for a steady guy like him with a sub 3m cap hit in his last contract year... the market doesn't seem to bode well for Meszaros I would think.

would be shocked if the NYR didnt ask for Couturier in return. cant see them dealing in conference. Del Zotto most definitely needs a change of scenery tho. any confidence he has he will never get back with the Rangers.

If there's no incompetent GM's in the league then there shouldn't be any market for Meszaros.

Not much need for a 7th D with a big cap hit and a free agent to boot.

Which is why I find he could be sold low. Not too low, but lower than if he was at least doing decent with the Rags.

I was just hoping that somehow a team needing defensemen due to many injuries would take him for a playoff run.

So would you guys want a GM who doesn't use the cap to its full capacity? Cap space doesn't win championships. The years argument I agree with, but I don't see the issue in spending to the cap.

I agree, I don't want to have an internal cap 15M less than everybody else.

Unless we make a trade it seems our forward core is set for next year. If we do decide to go after one of those guys Vanek would be at the top of my list. Although I would be interested in Gaborik if he could be had for a little cheaper, which is unlikely.

Vanek is more of a hard worker and better on both ends of the ice than Gabby.

Lupul out roughly a month, that guy can pretty much be counted on playing only half a year. A team just needs to hope its the right half.

I could totally see Holmgren offering a multi year deal to Heatley hoping he can get it turned around.

Heatley has regressed like crazy. Really showed it with the Sharks and now the Wild. I'd be ****ing pissed if we got him.

If Toronto lets Phaneuf hit the market, I think that the scariest scenario for Flyers fans.

Cap Space + Big Name D-man?

Come on...

I could see Homer trading for Gaborik at the deadline.

What return did Iginla and Clowe get at the deadline?

I can think of two end of season ATO contracts that would be a good argument against spending right to the cap every seaon.

Sure, and I don't necessarily mean spending right to the last penny, but if you see an area you can improve the team and you have the money, don't you do it?

There's pros and cons to both philosophies. I'm happy he Flyers are willing to spend money to be competitive, but I was certainly not happy watching two guys who would never play in the NHL otherwise suit up for the Flyers during a playoff stretch drive.

The constant rising salary cap (aside from the lockout affect) has generally muted egregious contracts, too, so the high spending franchises haven't been scared off of pushing the limits. I think nearly half of the teams this year are into LTIR, which is more symptomatic of the lockout, but still shows teams are willing to spend to be competitive (they could have used their compliance buy-outs).
