The only reason Bondra might be the target is because the price for O'Neill is TOOOOO HIGH.....
O'Neil won't be going anywhere cheap....but there have been trades recently that have surprised many people. Should be an interesting few weeks ahead of us.

Much more interesting to read that then the constant criticizing of everything he writes. I only come here when I need to rest my brain at work so it doesn't bother me too much but this site has really turned into nothing much more than a b!tch fest. Too bad, it used to be interesting.

2 things the Leafs could use:

*top 4 type player in the McCabe mold, capable of managing a tough forecheck.
* speedy winger who can spread the trap and score

OK, Markov D'oh!

O'Neill Niiice.

Gonchar, Huh?

Bondra, Niiice.

Kind of Ironic you come on here complaining about the b!tching ...by b!tching about it .... How does that help???

Not quite sure how you arrive at this.

I would say Tampa's defense is comprable, but definitely not worse. The Leafs have played 3 more games, but have allowed 13 more goals. That would require Tampa to let in over 4 goals a game in their next 3 to have allowed as many goals, which is well over what they average.

To suggest Toronto's defensive core is better then Montreal's is hilarious.

Montreal doesn't have any minor league scrubs like Ric Jackman out there struggling (a whopping -11 on a team that has been at or near the top of the standings all year), nor do they hand a regular spot to a washed up journeyman like Bryan Marchement. Even Toronto's best defenseman, Bryan McCabe has been maddeningly inconsistent.

In one less game, the Canadiens have allowed *16* less goals! Do you think Jose Theodore is THAT much better then Ed Belfour?

Oh, and I would take LA's defense over the Leafs in a heartbeat.

Like I said on the Sens board I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this is just a pathetic attempt by Watters to create a little havoc for the Ottawa media and the Sens players to distract them from the object at hand much like the Lindros situation. Watters come straight out and tell you he's a huge Leafs mark and doesn't care for the Senators or the players on the Sens. And again just like I said before, it may sound pathetic but Watters has proven himself to be pathetic so far.

Montreals Defence:

Stephane Quintal: 42 games played, 4 points, +4
Patrice Brisebois: 41 games played, 13 points, +11
Sheldon Souray: 48 games played, 32 points, +2
Francis Bouillon: 41 games played, 8 points, -2
Craig Rivet: 48 games played, 10 points, -1
Andrei Markov: 38 games played, 14 points, +3

OVERALL: 258 games played, 81 points, +17

Those were Montreals defencemen listed on TSN.ca when I could check them.

Toronto's Defence:

Bryan McCabe: 42 games played, 28 points, +6
Tomas Kaberle: 39 games played, 15 points, +12
Ken Klee: 44 games played, 24 points, +7
Bryan Marchment: 49 games played, 3 points, -2
Aki Berg: 46 games played, 7 points, +5
Karel Pilar: 30 games played, 8 points, -1

OVERALL: 250 games played, 85 points, + 27

So in 8 less games overall, Toronto's (top 6 by games played) worse defence put up 4 more points and was +10 over Montreals.

If you'd like let me know what other defencemen need to be added to the Montreal roster, and we can add Toronto's other defencemen as well. But I believe those are both teams top 6, correct?

Also, in 40 games for both goaltenders, Belfour has faced 1009 shots, vs Theodores 1118. 109 more shots allowed by the better defence? Not likely. Maybe Theodore is a little better than Belfour?

Top 4's...

McCabe
Klee
Kaberle
Berg

Compared to...

Markov
Souray
Brisebois
Rivet

Kaberle/Markov: Both are having slow seasons. Kaberle, 15 points in 39 games. Markov, 14 points in 38 games. Kaberle's had a better career. Decision: Tomas Kaberle

McCabe/Souray: Both are on pace for 50+ points. Souray's having a super season, but aside from that... Bryan McCabe is the safe choice and has done more offensively over the last 2 seasons then Souray did in his whole career. Sheldon is also injury prone, unlike McCabe. Decision: Bryan McCabe

Klee/Brisebois: Klee's on pace for 40+ points and is the top defensive defenseman the Leafs have. This compared to a guy Montreal fans would have traded for a 3rd rounder in 2003. Decision: Ken Klee

Berg/Rivet: Berg (26), consistently a plus player for Toronto. Physically punishing, capable of 10-15 points... getting paid $1.4 million. Rivert (29), good defensive player... capable of 20 points, salary of $2.5 million. Decision: Draw

Who has EVER compared Hedin to Lidstrom?! Seriously think about what you just posted.

He asked someone a question. He didn't compare them at all.

As I said in the last post, he asked someone a question "what do you think"! He never compared them. I did look buddy, maybe you need to read more carefully.

Comparing Hedin to Lidstrom is like saying we need Eric Cairns

In that case, I'd rather have Pony.

C'mon man that's not the way the Hedin thing went. He said do you think he could be a Lidstrom or Norstrom type player? That's "do you think he COULD be?" You follow now?

Says something great about Leaf fans that we can fantasize all kinds of trades, dream about all kinds of possibilities, and play with rosters so freely.

Who cares if these are pipe dreams? Some of the ideas floated in these numerous trade threads are quite reasonable, others off the wall.

But all are good fun. Especially on off days when life seems to have less purpose.
