I think that THIS rumor isn't one. GM are calling others all year long to talk about a player or another.

But I think that we are rightful to guess that a trade that is involving a Habs' player might pretty well happen soon with all those rumors surrounding the organization.

This will probably not include Pacioretty or Subban but nor some AHL 'suspects'.

There was no way that trade was the best a man could get.

McKenzie was theorizing on this one and of course teams will call, but you cant trade an elite defensemen, it does not happen.

Pacioretty, is our best winger (at the moment) with size, our best scorer and on a sweet deal contract. 0 incentive to trade him. BUT winger is more replaceable. He isnt at an elite status (yet) at his position. So with a fairly decent farm system, we can add to him and upgrade on that position immediately. It all depends on what was offered and what will be, but MB is in a position of strength IMO. Signing him to that deal makes me a very hot commodity in a CAP world.
Pac was 33rd in scoring among forwards.
Most of the forwards ahead of him are center.
Definitively top-20 among wingers.

How many elite wingers is there in the league according to your criteria: one per team, one per division (one R and one L)?

Bergevin would be stupid to trade either one, let alone trading them together.

Eberle = 50 to 75 point player on the worse team in the league, play him with Galchenyuk and Gallagher
Hall = 50 to 70 point player on the worse team in the league, the perfect second line centre of the future or left wing to play with Eller
1st round draft pick = Aaron Ekblad or Sam Reinhart, Ekblad - Franchise defenseman a la Pronger or Reinhart - 1st line centre of the future
Terrible deal for Montreal. I'd rather have Max on the team over EBerle, and why would I trade a superstar Defensemen for the chance of drafting a possible superstar defensemen? I would be a very very unhappy man if that were to happen.

Don't get me wrong here, i like Pacioretty...

But Elite....define Elite?
There's 2 things bothering me before calling Pacioretty an Elite player.

1- An Elite player (IMO) can be effective against anybody on the other team.
Pacioretty is leathal when he's used in an offensive/sheltered way. But against other
type of opposition, with some defensive missions....he's struggle everytime in the past.

2- An Elite player (IMO) should be able to play with a lot of different type of player.
I didn't see that from Pacioretty yet....doesn't mean he can't, but we didn't see it yet!

He is an awesome player that's for sure....but there's better! Even if they don't bring as much offensive.

And there's the other thing: How many more injuries can Pacioretty suffer before being label an "injury prone player" and loose 50% of his actual market value?

Not sure why you felt the need to create yet another superfluous rumor thread. There's already a bergevin super splash thread or whatever. Keep it in there.
