Brent Burns

Burns played really well last night I thought. Had a few nice chances and really drove to the net nicely. He looked to have a lot of energy and he sure isn't scared to hit people in the corners and in front of the net. I'm really high on this kid. Remember that he is only 18 years old(maybe 19 ).

I think that he could be a real force for the Wild in a few years. He's got nice size, and will only get bigger. What are do you guys think about him so far? And do you think he can be the power forword that the Wild covet?

I wouldn't try to project anything just yet. You know those power forwards, they need lots of time and patience to develop, and a lot of times they don't pan out. Burns does look pretty good so far though, so hopefully he makes it big in this league.

I think he looks good. Sometimes I think he gets a little lost out there when he doesn't have the puck, but he certainly isn't hesitant when he has the chance to throw a check or drive towards the net. Pretty good for a young guy with size, I'd say. Time will tell.

I saw him for the first time on TV the other night vs. Pittsburgh - I was most impressed with the skating ability - WOW can he motor out there, and he looks good doing it, unlike say, Kyle Wanvig. While he doesn't play with Kyle's edge, considering his age and inexperience, I have high hopes he'll develop into something special.

Good point. One thing I've noticed is that if he does get to the front of the net, he rarely stays physical after a whistle. A guy gives him a shove and he'll pretty much back off. Not saying that's a vital indicator of playing style or anything, or that it's a bad thing, even. I think it just puts a point on how he doesn't have that kind of edge yet, probably due to age, as you say.

Although he didn't score in the WJC, Pierre McGuire said he thinks that he is going to be one helluva hockey player. Of course, not in those words but that is more or less what he meant. He's got great size, and when he fills out that 6'4" frame, he will be an even more bigger foe to impose upon. I hope he can find a bit more of a goalscoring touch, because a player like him is good to have and the Wild are very lucky to have him. He may not lead the league in goals, but he could be another Shane Doan prototype. Only good things are to come from him, so be patient. He is the type of player that will definitely be worth the wait.

At this point I see him more like a Taylor Pyatt type.

I think Brent Burns has a great chance to make it in this league. He might be a project type player, but he has all the tools to be a solid 2nd line winger or check line specialist. His skating is amazing for his age and shows signs of dominance in the future. Kind of reminds me of Peter Forsberg how he weaves through traffic, strong and smart without the puck. Still could end like a Bobby Holik style defender under Lemaire. Future looks pretty bright for Brent Burns.
