I would like to see that. Rosehill hasn't been terrible, but he shouldn't be playing over Raffl. Raffl can fit in nicely on that fourth line because of his willingness and ability to battle on the boards. From what I've seen of him, he also seems willing to take on a defensive role as well. Rosehill should only be playing against teams who carry equally as usesless goons like Toronto.

And between Chief and Lappy I believe the PK unit will only get better, I do like Roo on the PK I feel he's an underated PK'er, Hall, Couts, and Read are very stout on the PK I think Rinaldo will come along as well

I like Giroux to not play the PK. Those are hard minutes and if they have 3-5 penalties a game, Giroux is being ran out there for nothing.

I like Raffl to play the PK if he can.

Rinaldo: 18.37 GA/On per 60 on PK.
Couts: 3.86
Read: 3.79
Giroux: 8.71
Hall: 9.95
Raffl: 7.45

Couts and Read have the same PK +/- as Rinaldo... -3, but they have played 70 and 67 mins on the PK... Rinaldo has played less than 12.

Rinaldo should not be on the PK. He has literally doubled the chance it will be scored on when he is out there. And only plays against 2nd units to boot.
I missed the last two games, but from what I've seen of him he leaves a lot of wide open passing and shooting lanes. He goes after the puck carrier fast and aggressively, then has to scramble to get where he needs to be.

Sounds like things that will come in time and experience. I'm willing to take the bumps

Yeah, he's definitely been over aggressive. Hopefully he learns to correct it.

And as far as removing Giroux from the PK, well, I don't think we have that luxury...

Its happening, he's barely getting a half of minute of PK time if I'm reading the stats correctly.

Yeh, he averages 30 seconds at the moment... but bear in mind he had next to nothing up until the game vs the Oilers... since then in 7 games he has racked up ~11 minutes. So he is playing 1:40 a game recently. In those 7 games he has had 3 SH goals against while on. Couts and Read have 4 on the whole season.

Giroux (who averages ~1.40 a game, what Rinaldo has been playing in the last 7) has had 5 scored while he is on PK... in 23 games. So he has been scored on twice as often + a bit more than G was in the same role on the 2nd pairing.

A little off topic but ss there somewhere to find sortable stats to see how many ES and PP goals a player is on the ice for?

NHL.com does for goals for (stats>players then a subheading) so does behindthenet.com, for offensive and defensive if press on on/off ice +/- tick box.

For example here are the flyers forwards at 5v5 this year.

It annoys me that BTN is blocked at my job lol. I can rarely join in on statistical analysis because I'm limited to NHL.com.

Regarding the pk: those stats show why playing a guy like rosehill over a competent pker like raffl is asinine.

Couturier best player for the Flyers today. Looks like a good idea not to have traded him.

Couts and Read may be the two most valuable players on the roster right now.

I'll post it here, too: Couturier made a strong case this game for being one of the SOers.

Coots has been much better since he scored his first goal of the season a few games ago. He's using his size very well and just seems much more confident. His line has easily been our best line.

Also, I'm SOOOOO glad we picked up Downie if for no other reason than it gets Rinaldo out of the top 9. Sorry for all those who are in love with him but Rinaldo is just not a good hockey player. The ONLY thing he does well is hit.

And Talbot. This year he was on the 3rd regularly, far more than Rinaldo, and once the team got in the offensive zone they might as well have been down a man while he was on the ice.

He jumped up mine near the top when he got his GAON/60 down to 0.98 in December of his rookie year while he faced hard competition and played in front of a fully melting down Bryzgalov. 0.98 was well, well below everyone else on the team.

Can anyone name an 18 year old who came in and showed such an absurdly high level of defensive ability? I sure can't.

For reference, Bobby Clarke was 22 when he came into the league. Mike Richards and Toews were both 20. Datsyuk was 23. For players to come in as 18 year old rookies, play at that defensive level, and continue it for two more years...it's just not done.

Edit: perhaps Frank Nighbor, who came into the big leagues as a 19 year old in 1913.
