Darren Haydar

I see he's ripping up the AHL - leading the league in scoring with 2 PPG.

Is there any chance of him being called up and getting a real look with the Thrashers? Or is he considered just a career minor leaguer. that would be tough considering he's only 27, but sometimes those \labels are tough to lose.

We have so many "project" players on the big team right now (Metro, Slater, Kapanen, Krog, McCarthy, Coburn, etc.) , there's really no room for another one like Haydar at the moment. We are in 1st place in the division and this is the last year of Hartley's contract, I don't expect him to take many risks or chances at this point.

I think the value of having Haydar and Krog in the organization is the affect it seems to be having on Sterlings development.

Although I would love to see Haydar get a chance, I don't want to see him and Kovalchuk on the same line because of the implied defensive liability. Separating Kozlov and Hossa doesn't seem like a great idea at the moment either. I really like the chemistry between Holik and Vigier. I don't think Haydar would get much of a chance playing on the 4th line. Right now he just doesn't fit our needs.

Haydar going for AHL record

Ooooooo, an opportunity to quote myself. This is from the recent thread over in the NHL Talk forum titled Will Darren Haydar ever get a shot in the NHL?

At this point, I'd say there is little chance he goes up.
From other people who watched him in Nashville, they said he just does not have the speed to make it in the NHL. He is like Steve Maltais; a guy who is a superstar in the AHL, but just cannot make the transition to the NHL game.

As a side note, and what I thought the thread was about, with an assist in last night's game, Haydar has tied the AHL point streak record with at least one point in 31 straight games. He can break the AHL record and tie the Wolves franchise record with a point tomorrow against the San Antonio Rampage.

Haydar tied the AHL record set by Mike Richard while with Binghamton from Oct. 18th, 1987 to Dec. 23rd, 1987 (25g & 30a). The Wolves franchise record was set by Rob Brown in 1996.

At the time I wrote that, there was no word of the injury. All I read on Ice Chips on TSN at the time was that Mellanby was not going to play.

Source?

Those 3 have been out for awhile and their holes have been filled for weeks/week.
